Weight Question - What is going on here?

Background - Up until 3 weeks ago I was working out a lot everyday (Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred & Banish Fat Boost Metabolism every day). I lost weight, built up muscle and felt like I was in the best shape of my life. THEN I went on vacation and PIGGED OUT for 5 days in a row... (I didn't hold back anything and didn't work out at all, ugh). It was my last vacation before I got my new puppy... THEN I got the puppy and have been busy playing-with/taking care of him with no working out.
Now - I HIGHLY expected to gain weight... but I've been noticing that I'm not gaining weight... but lost a pound or two. I eat healthfully and I'll be getting back into working out this afternoon (starting Shred over again)
Please tell me what is going on... why did I lose/maintain rather than gain??

It's possible that with all the hard work you have been doing, your body felt hungrier. During those 3 weeks perhaps you weren't eating enough, and it is very hard to determine that. The 5 days of relentless eating might have given your body/metabolism a little shock and a message that says, "nope, not starving at all. no food shortage here, take a look at this muffin and candy bar and beer!" so your body decides "ok, it's time to lose a little more weight, we aren't having a food crisis after all"
Also, taking a break from working out sometimes releases built up water and shows a loss as well. When you work out, you tear muscle fibers, as part of the healing process, your body sends stuff to the fibers by way of water. The water hangs out there as they heal, and when you take a break from exercises, you have more time to heal. When your fibers are finished healing up, your body releases the water that was stored there.
This is only my guess! At any rate, get back to your old schedule when you can, and you will continue to see more lean muscle developing. great job!0 -
maybe losing muscle mass since you aren't working out...0

You built more muscle, which revs up your metabolism, which makes your body more efficient at burning calories plus it doesn't sound like you have been laying on the couch for the time, you've been playing with the puppy, which burns calories, especially if there are a lot of big movements, like chasing (aka sprints), taking him for walks. If you can train your puppy to play big, you'll both benefit in the long run.0

I agree with Sarah about losing water weight wehn you stop working out. A week or two of missed workouts for me (when i was fit and a good weight) always meant a 3 pd scale drop!
Also, I have NEVER gained weight on a vacation! I'm one of those idiots who gets up at the crack of dawn on vacation and tries to see everything I possibly can that day, so all the extra walking apparently cancels out the extra eating for me. Maybe it did for you too?
Good luck with the new pup! And congrats!0 -
Because you're freakishly lucky!!
It could be that you lost some of the muscle you'd built up with all the jillian Michael's strength training.
If I were you I'd just embrace the loss and continue with your exercise
I hope that happens to me when i go on my holiday!0 -
Before you started trying to lose weight you didn't gain weight every single week. You have fallen off the wagon, so to speak, and you haven't gained anything. . . yet. Don't wait too long before you get started back in your routine.0
