Ok, I've been on a diet for the last 2 weeks now. In this time I've dropped 8 lbs already. Is it normal to drop weight really fast when you first start out on the diet or should i be worried? I'm eating 90-95% of the calories/fat/protein that MFP says i need to eat for the day including most of the extra calories I get from working out. So i'm not starving myself, I just don't want to hinder my progress. Granted I'm working out more like 4-5 times a week for 20-45 minutes instead of the 3 times @ 20 minutes I put down as my goal so that might have something to do with it. Has anyone else noticed the weight coming off fast at the start?

That's awesome! It's pretty normal to have "unusual" results at the very beginning. It sounds like you're doing things right so I wouldn't change a thing. Keep up the great work. After a few more days or weeks, things will probably stabilize and you may not lose as rapidly, but that's ok. 1-2 lbs per week is a nice healthy pace. But 8 lbs in two weeks is nothing to worry about since you're just starting out. It's likely to be a lot of water weight that you shed quickly.
Great work!0 -
It's normal! You're losing water bloat. Awesome!0

I don't think it's necessarily a problem as you are hoping to drop 95 pounds. Especially if you've been trying to eat fewer processed foods, which would really drop your simple carbs and sodium, you may have lost a fair amount of water weight in those 8 lbs.
Your workouts are tabulated as you perform them. What you put in your 'goals' for workout time per week is not factored into your recommended calories, no. The workout calories are only added to your calorie goal as you actually log exercise.

Absolutely normal...congratulations! It's a real boost to lose so quickly, isn't it? Too bad it tapers off...just keep going when it does and you will reach your goal before you know it!0

Hi,
I've also been here for two weeks, and have lost 9 pounds....I don't have that much to lose - about 20lbs altogether, so this is a BIG loss. What I figure is that that 9lbs were crying out to come off!! I know it will slow down dramatically, so am just grateful for a quick start! Enjoy it while it lasts - and well done!!0 -
Yes, it's common. It should start to slow dramatically very soon! So, don't be disappointed when that happens.0

Yep, sounds like everything is okay!!0 -
Sounds normal to me too. I dropped about 10 in the first few weeks then it slowed down. Still losing but not as fast. Keep up the good work!0

8lbs is great!! But as others have commented it will slow down so in the next couple of weeks if you only lose a couple, or even none don't be discouraged... just keeping doing what you're doing!0

That's awesome...I had just the opposite problem it took me a month to lose 6 lbs at the beginning of my diet then I talked to a nurse that taught my jazzercise class and she said that my body thought I was starving so she said keep eating the same amount of calories(about 1300) and split it up into 5 meals instead of 3 and then I dropped 6 lbs in literally one week. It was awesome. Keep up the good work.0

if your drinking 2 liter + a day which is a little over 4 pound of just water how do you account this myth "water weight" that you lady's are always talking about?0 -
Ok thank you for all your help! I was worried it was coming off too fast and that it might bounce back!0

Isn't it a nice feeling to be worried about losing weight too fast?0

Remember how concerned you are now when you go months without losing an ounce!0

I think I explained it pretty well above in terms of changes in sodium intake. It's more likely that someone has lost some water through dietary changes like sodium reduction than that they suddenly began creating (and sustaining) a 2,250 daily calorie deficit.
( 9 pounds would be 31,500 calorie deficit. Divide by 14 days and you get 2,250 calories in deficit per day. )
And we women have these hormones that can swing us around as well. You may have heard about those.
But seriously, most people do lose a bunch of water in the beginning due to dietary changes moreso than caloric restriction or massive amounts of exercise.0 -
That is so great! It probably will slow down later, so just enjoy the great loss! Keep it up!~0
