I have the Polar F6, and it works great. It isn't the "newest" one that Polar makes, but it works fine. The general advice I got when I purchased one was to go with a Polar.

I think they discontinued the FT6. I got the FT4 and I really like it it is about $100 but I am sure if you search ebay or craigslist you can get one for cheaper.

I got my Polar FT7 on Craigslist for $50, and I don't ever leave home without it now! Just keep your eye out for good deals.

I was shopping for the same HRM when I noticed the New Balance N4 and the Pro-Form TX-300. I ended up getting the New Balance one and my daughter has the Pro-Form. They were much lower in price and are both very simple to use. Cheap and operational just what I needed.

I have the Polar FT4, and it works fine - gives me confidence when exercising, as I am approaching 49 and don't want to over rev my heart too much! Not the cheapest though, it was $113 in your money...

Whatever you get, be sure it has the chest strap. The ones that are just the watch part where you touch the sensor are not nearly as accurate. I have a Garmin FR60 and LOVE it! It came with a USB stick that transfers all of my data to Garmin's free software on my computer so that I can track all of my workouts.

Last week I picked up a Polar F4 on Amazon for under $70. So far I really like it. During your workout there are several views: heart rate, calories burned, time, and zone range with heart rate. All of which are easily accessed-- very user friendly. When you are finished it shows the duration of your workout, how many calories you burned, average heart rate, maximum heart rate, and the duration you were in your zone. It stores your data also.

I'm working with a personal trainer and she recommended polar as well. If you use a gym and they have precor equipment the polar monitor will sync with it and show your heartrate on the machine.
