taking a mental health weekend...

Not counting, not logging, just enjoying. Back to the grind on Monday. Sometimes I think we need to let it go for a day or 2... In the past, I haven't planned it as such, but this weekend was very much planned as a let go weekend. I don't know how weigh in will go on Tuesday, and really don't care - I am now at a healthy weight, just have a few more vanity pounds to go, and whatever this weekend does to my weight, it will all come back off next week (or maybe the week after, depending on how bad Tuesday is), but it will all come out in the wash and be OK...The only way I will keep this weight off for the long haul is if I can take some time occasionally to just ... not ...

I did just that last weekend. Husband and I went away for a long weekend and enjoyed. But it was always in the back of my mind...

I have done that myself this weekend. It wasn't planned. I have been really dedicated, but this weekend I just completely splurged. I am beating myself up a little for it now, but I have to admit, it was kind of nice to take a little break from counting cals. Back on track tomorrow:)

I have actually heard of a "diet" in which you purposely eat all you want once a week (? don't exactly remember how often) in order to keep your body out of starvation mode.

I'm kinda doing that today too. I'm glad someone else is! I was feeling guilty, but it's such a crappy day outside and just a blah day. I'm counting my calories and did some singing at church today, but I'm just relaxing now.

So that's what happened to me yesterday and the day before - mental health days. I thought I gone rogue or something. This makes me feel much better -enjoy your mental health days!
  • I think it is very healthy to pick atleast one day per week, say Saturdays, to allow yourself a little indulgence. I make healthy choices for breakfast and lunch, but allow room for indulgence at dinner, for that pasta or maybe even dessert or that second or third glass of wine if I want. Good for you!

Great attitude, I'm sure that will help you stick to a good regime in the long term! I am making good progress, and when I hit my final target I plan to set myself an acceptable weight zone, and thereafter up my exercise if I get near the top-limit, till the weight gets back to my average desired weight...

    well done!

I agree 110%. Tracking, counting, weighing, calculating ... sometimes eating daily is like a damn science experiment. Is it worth it? Absolutely. Is it worth it sometimes to take a break and not worry about a damn thing other than what I want to eat next? You betcha. I've lost weight, I will continue to lose weight, even any extra pounds I put on during an indulgence meal/day/weekend.

Mentally, sometimes you just need to say, "not today."

Congratulations on making that decision and not feeling guilty about it.

I think you're totally right about that. I think the once a week like some plans have is a little much, but a friend of mine has lost about 100 lbs in the past year by counting calories and every month or so he lets loose and eats on a truely epic scale. Even those crazy health gurus probably decimate a dozen doughnuts now and then.
