Not achieving your goal but still being successful

So my first goal weigh-in since I started the program was originally scheduled to be tomorrow. Exactly a month ago I joined the site and I told myself I would be 135 lb by then.

However, due to Spring Break and my birthday weekend, things didn't exactly go as planned. I did a sneak weigh-in today because I was curious if there was even the remotest possibility I would be near my goal and I was not surprised (although I have to admit a little bummed) to see that I had not achieved it. I got 141 lb today, so realistically, there's no way I'll be 135 by tomorrow.

At first I have to admit I was disappointed. Even though I hadn't always made the right decisions, I've been working out intensively and eating super healthy this week. The more I thought about it, though, the more I realized that this wasn't in any way a set back. In fact, I started at 145 lb and I'm now down to 141 (possibly even 140 by tomorrow since I weighed after having eaten).

That means I've lost a good 5 pounds, even with Spring Break and my birthday having taken place during this month. What I'm trying to get at is that although sometimes we don't achieve that "ideal" goal we set our minds to, we do get closer to it. I'm 5 pounds away from my first mini goal. I have now extended my goal and I refuse to get discouraged by the numbers on the scale. I feel wonderful after a successful week of exercise and healthy choices.

So there :)

I completely agree! And that's also why I've told myself not to even think about associating dates with my scale numbers. As long as I keep losing, it'll happen. Congrats on the progress so far. It is totally something to be proud of!

Good for you! I am in about the same place right now. I have been exercising everyday and eating close to my calorie goal and I haven't lost anything this week. I have lost 5 lbs since I started in february and although I can't see the difference yet, I feel different. I am working toward a healthy lifestyle and a healthy mindset and that is what really matters.

Happy Belated Birthday to another March Baby!

I am in complete agreement with you about the goals. Even if you haven't made the goal, but still lost some weight, you should be very proud of yourself. I myself joined the site and started using the app at the beginning of last month and have lost 13 lbs.

Now mind you, I never set any "mini" goals. The only goal I have set is to reach the weight of 115 lbs. I don't have a set time for this, as for me, just the fact that I am doing it, is a goal in and of itself.

    Good luck and congratulations again.

hahaha I love the way you finished your post with 'So there :)' !!!! So funny!

But you are completely right about being happy with your progress so far. I set an unrealistic goal for myself this month (to lose 11lbs) but I didnt take into consideration the family outings and birthday's that I had to attend during the course of the month. So Im definitely not going to reach my goal this month.
I have instead changed my goal to something a bit more achievable which is a 5lb loss by the end of the month. So Ive two weeks to get as close to that as possible. This makes me feel alot better than the feeling of failure I get when I think I wont be able to meet my 10lb goal. Slow and steady!

    So there :):flowerforyou:

Hahah yess! I feel like that's the way we have to look at it...ok so we didn't make that "goal"? So what? We're improving slowly but surely every day..I know I feel better about myself and I look better. More importantly, there's only one way to go and that's forward. :) thank you all for the replies
