summer birthdays and sports
I'm looking for advise from anyone out there with a summer birthday or with kids with a summer birthday. I'm mulling over a decision, and wonder what others think...
My younger boy turns 4 in July and has a bit of natural athletic ability. I've gotten an OK from our city Parks & Rec department to have him start the "blastball" t-ball program for 4 year olds this summer even though it takes place in June and he won't be 4 quite yet. I haven't decided whether or not I will let him do this yet, but he is interested in trying. He's been watching his older brother participate in basketball & baseball for the last year or so and REALLY upset he couldn't participate too.
My question is this - did anyone out there participate in sports (or have their kids participate in sports) ahead of the rest of their age group? Did it go well? Do you wish you would have waited a year so they were with the kids they'd be in school with? Or, did it not really matter?
Just curious what other's thoughts were. I've had friends who loved being the youngest in school, sports and stuff, and others who hated it.

I do not know if this counts..... but my daughter started dance at 3 instead of 4 (which is the studios regulations), they took her bec/she was emotionally and physically ready. She did great too, no problem with the other girls and was not afraid when the recital came around. I think you just need to decide it your little guy is ready.0

I played pretty much every sport imaginable as a child and never really noticed if I was younger than most of the other kids (august birthday). I think if he's interested and wants to try it out then go for it. :happy:0

I started playing sports at 3 (skiing) and competitive sports at 4 (soccer and rock climbing). My 3 year old plays for a soccer club (so not rec league) and it is great for him!
I say do it!0 -
