I am going to make a cake for hubby's birthday tomorrow. I have a boxed mix, will be using applesauce and egg whites only rather than oil and whole eggs. I am unsure on how to adjust the nutrition info though. Anyone know? Thanks in advance.

Well, the applesauce will add sugar but the fat will be reduced some.

In all honesty, I'd either find a cake recipe to make from scratch, or I'd make the mix the way the box says to. Cake mixes generally call for 1/3 cup oil and 2 eggs. Cutting the oil and egg yolks won't reduce calories or fat by enough to go to the trouble of re-figuring the nutritional info.

Just go into the "Food" section here on MFP and create a Recipe. It'll let you add all the Ingredients and then do all the calculations for you.

If it were me, I wouldn't go through the trouble of adjusting it, if i were only going to track it once or twice. You will be saving fat and some calories for sure by using apple sauce. You could just estimate the calories and enter them manually to your meal to get an idea of where your totals are. If you really want an exact number, you could enter everything if the box shows what the mixture nutritional value is(powder only) then add your egg whites and apple sauce in.

Thanks for the advice. I realized the boxes have the info for just the mix and prepared. I may not bother with the eggs but will definitely still substitute applesauce for oil. 1/3c of oil is 640 calories and 1/3c of applesauce is only about 133, not to mention the fat difference. Definitely worth it to me.
