TOM... Not fair!!!! :(

I have heard that it is normal to gain water weight during the TOM. Is this true?

For the past several weeks (I missed my last TOM) I have consistently lost 2 - 3 lbs per week. I started my TOM on Saturday. Now, not only did I NOT lose any weight, my weigh in this morning says I actually GAINED 1 pound! I only went over my goal once this week and it wasn't by much.

So here are my many questions: Do you gain weight during your TOM? When during your cycle and how much do you usually gain? How long does it take to go away? Will I continue to lose fat while gaining water weight or will my weight loss just be put on hold?

Thanks everyone for you answers in advance! :flowerforyou:

Absolutely true! I retain water like CRAZY And can easily gain 5-8 lbs during TOM, and lose it immediately thereafter. It used to be 2-4 pounds, but now that I'm older, the water weight gain swings are getting bigger. :(

Don't worry about it, keep doing the right things and it will show up in inches AND in weight loss.

Yes, it is very common. You should decrease salty foods before your period at it will help with PMS type stuff as well. Don't sweat it as it should decrease as you go through your period. Keep eating other items and drinking, just cut your salt.

It's my TOM right now too. I actually lost weight. Hopped on the scale this morning and was down 3 pounds. I watch my sodium anyway but especially during this time. I also try to maintain a gallon of water a day. This usually helps. I also wear a neoprene half body suit to help get rid of excess water while I do cardio.

It just depends on your body...for instance I tend to "gain" almost a full week to 10 days before hand. This thew me off at first and was discouraging but once I realized there was a pattern I know not to worry too much. In order to know if this is what is going on record your weight and your cycle. If you see that everytime you weigh in around TOM then you will know that it has something to do with that.

Also remember hormones acn affect you as well.

When are you weighing yourself? The best time I found out is to weigh yourself in the AM after you wake up but before you eat breakfast. Why? Because you have fully digested the food from the day before, and gravity;s changed affect from you laying flat out on the bed instead of you standing.

    Hope this helps.

The onlly reason it stays the same is because of water weight... if you continue to work out you will still lose fat weight you just wont notice it until after your TOM... being on that TOM doesn't make your body quit breaking down fat.. it doesnt' interrupt fat loss or muscle gain. It just makes your body gain water weight... I suggest not weighing during TOM.. it will just frustrate you.

I am the same way...I usually put on eight about a week or 2 before TOM.
I weighed myself today and had gained 2 pounds and I am hoping that this is why.
My daughter just started her TOM and that usually means I follow about a week later.

I completely agree. I am starting to gain my TOM weight and have decided not to do my weigh in for this week. I don't feel like feeling dissapointed so I'm just going to avoid it.
