Anyone else get bouts of insomnia? I get this around the full moon every month and I am dragging this week. I need to know what others do to get to sleep. I am soooo tired today and I really want a nap but I am afraid if I take one I won't sleep tonight.

My doctor prescribed a MILD sleeping pill for me. It helps me get to sleep, but I still wake up in the middle of the night. VERY frustrating!:explode:

i have it regardless... and it sucks. i've had it since i got outta high school so that's bout 8hrs or so. i've learned to deal with it.. rarely am i tired durin the day though, which is good but reading helps me tons. i've read so many books it's crazy. and on a personal note, but you can try it.. sex helps.. just "getting off" helps me pass right out. :blushing: i think i have the BEST sleep after sex...

I've found that lavender oil works surprisingly well. I've tried lots of other things, and a hot bath and a few drops of lavender oil on the pillowcase usually works the best for me. Also, one of those eye-shades that blocks light really has helped me. (I used to have the full-moon insomnia, too. . .I think the extra light was tricking my brain into thinking it was morning. . .)

I'm not sure if there was a full moon :glasses: last night but...& I didnt sleep much myself ..hmmm interesting idea though! Tylenol PM helps for that when I cant sleep. And...If you were to take a 15 min. nap today I don't think it would ruin your sleep this evening, maybe to long of a nap would.

    Good Luck with that:yawn:

Don't normally have to much problem, but when I travel to a different time zone I do. Doing some yoga seems to help as well as my kid's lullabys on Ipod:blushing:

Thanks ladies! My husband thinks I am nuts because I dont like any light in our room at night, I make him take his electric toothbrush off of the charger at night ( i refer to it as the disco ball). I think the light of the moon just creeps in and I know there are some outside factors that are keeping the hamster wheel in my head spinning at night.

I have lavender oil and an eye shade and some "sleepy" music that is supposed to help lull my butt to sleep so I am going to give it a shot tonight and hopefully get more than 2 or 3 hours! Oh, and maybe I will try crystalbella's idea too

Well, declining levels of estrogen (like in perimenopause) will knock sleep around (I know it does for me). In addition to the other suggestions MFP members have posted, here are some other do's and don'ts (esp if stress is part of the picture like you seem to suggest it is) --

    * No caffeine (including "hidden" sources like some pain relievers and "energy" drinks and chocolate)
    * No alcohol (which can make you fall asleep but then, when the alcohol levels fall, wakes you up)
    * Regular exercise (I personally get a huge kick from exercise so I cannot do it too close to bedtime but I know not everyone gets that same effect)
    * A warm bath/shower will raise your body temp and lead to a little relaxation (might be helpful if there is a lot of stress swirling around you)
    * chamomille tea
    * warm milk (releases tryptophan if warmed in the microwave to the temp you'd do for a baby's bottle; tryptophan is a natural sleep inducer)
    * Go to bed at the same time and wake at the same time every single day, seven days a week (so that your body establishes a regular rhythm)
    * Talk to your doc about a mild sleep aid

    Good luck!!!

I just wanted to thank all of you....even progress63 (for reminding me that I am 36 and my eggs are drying up   ).

I did have a little "sleepytime tea" :drinker: and I made a point to not exercise late yesterday. It took a bit but I fell asleep sometime around 10:30 (when I got up and told my teenager to get some sleep) and I woke up just before my alarm at 6:50 this am!

I feel great today, and yes, perimenopause could be the reason :noway: . My mom, grandmother and both aunts fondly recall the "sleepless" thirties. Yay for me! Apparently I should expect it every month, thanks to crazy hormones and the thermostat on my body getting ready to break :blushing:

NO...and I have a PM yoga dvd that is supposed to help relax you and get you ready for sleep, I totally forgot about that, I will try it tonight!
