Running in Water

As I have mentioned before, I do most of my workouts in the pool. I run in the water for about 30 mins a day. I run 2 laps and then I break the current with 2 laps and so on. I think that it must burn more calories than land running because you have water resistance against you. Does anyone know how to log that into my excercise?

I do this exercise as well and I enter it in as water jogging. If I do it for 30min I burn 360 calories and I feel that is pretty spot on0

Doing anything with water resistance is sure to burn more calories.
Makes me wish I had access to a pool! Waaaah! :sad:0 -
No offense, but I doubt you are burning more calories than land running because you weigh a lot less floating in a pool than you do outside of a pool. When you are running outside of the pool you are pulling your full body weight against gravity. The effect of gravity is near null in a pool due to the air in our lungs and the fact that our body fat enables us to float. A dense object such as a rock will sink straight to the bottom but would experience some resistance from the water on the way down.0

Read this article. It says just walking in water you can burn 285 more calories than on land because of the resistance.

I admit that I have not read up on water walking or water jogging until now. There are many references online that suggest that you can burn more calories doing these activities in water versus on land. However, I did find a website that outlines several studies performed by many different groups which indicate that treadmill walking and jogging/running does give one are more substansive workout than water walking or jogging. I also found a study done by Texas A&M that says that work done on an aqua treadmill (a small pool with high powered jets) can be more effective than using a land based treadmill. Here's the link to that study: http://www.prweb.com/releases/2007/08/prweb546440.htm
I can definitely see the advantages of water aerobics/walking/jogging. For one, there's definitely a lot less stress on the body (joints particulary). I will have to try it. I do a lot of land walking and jogging and I have been experiencing problems with my achilles on both ankles. I think it's tendonitis. ouch!
