I have read several articles saying that 8 oz of chocolate milk is one of the best things for you to have after a workout. Does anyone have any experience with this? Advice?
Do you think almond milk would have the same\more\less benfits?
Thanks for the input!

why chocolate? lol...I always have nonfat greek yogurt after a work out, super duper yummy and high in protien and calcium0

I did the almond milk after workouts and didnt see ay difference.
I think the theory is protein and sugar to spike insulin and promote protein uptake into your muscles...but milk is a slow absorbing protein so it really doesnt make sense.0 -
It's suggested because it has carbs and protein and some fat. Well rounded. I also choose greek yogurt and berries, or a recovery shake though.0

I always use Horizon chocolate milk with whey protein powder. Chocolate milk has the perfect carb/protein balance to help with muscle recovery and growth. I have noticed a HUGE difference in muscle definition since I started drinking it after every workout.0

I think the study was comparing chocolate milk with plain water or sports drinks and it seemed superior to those things, not sure how it compares to almond milk, especially with regard to carb and protein content, calcium, sodium and sugar.0

I do but only because it's a good excuse to have dark chocolate almond milk.0

I've just started taking Alpro soya chocolate milk after workouts. It seems to come in the handiest 250ml container. Though I'd prefer to have it cold - just keeping it in my gym bag or the car isn't the same as a fridge!
It certainly acts as a reward that I look forward to during my workout - it's a bit tricky to give any sort of accurate measurable effect of taking it.0 -
It is recommended because of the balance of carb, protein and fat. I use it, but mix it myself. It is cheap and a nice treat after sweating my brains out! (keeps me out of the cookie jar too!).0

I've read it's a great post-workout drink. Here's a link to a rather old article that sums it up. I've read the same information in other sources, so I think it's pretty valid.

I believe the concensus is a protein powder is best, but if you run out, chocolate milk is a good substitute.0 -
There was a string on this a couple weeks ago too. I'll see if I can find it. In a nutshell, the chocolate milk gives you a good balance of carbs, protein and lactose to help feed your muscles and aid in recovery. Numerous studies have been done that prove chocolate milk was far better than sports drinks in helping the body recover better and faster for the next workout...0

Chocolate milk works because it has the right blend of fat, carbs, and protein. And it's all natural! Why spend all the money on sports drinks when you can drink chocolate milk and feel like a kid again?
I'm not sure if Almond Milk will work--I don't think it has the same amount of protein as milk.0
