OK, here's the deal. At 135 and 5'6", you're at a healthy weight for your height. Have you had your body fat % checked? What you should be trying to do now is to lose body fat, not pounds, as pounds are a really, really deceptive thing. I have friends that weigh less than me (one by about 20 pounds!) who are actually larger than me measurements wise.

I know it's easy to get fixated on a scale number, but I think rather than change your techniques (and I think your calories may be too low. . .but that's just me) change your goal focuses. This is what I've struggled with. I just got a "fitness asessment" at my gym, and it was some of the best money I've spent. I discovered that my BMR is nearly 1600 calories a day, and learned my body fat %. Now, rather than trying to lose lbs, I'm trying to lower my body fat.:flowerforyou:

OK FUZZ, here's my advice. I won't critisize on whether I think you need to lose any or not, it's not my place, BUT, I will tell you that losing weight with a BMI of around 21 is going to be EXTREMELY difficult. I can tell you that 1200 cals is not enough, not even close. You're probably not going to lose a pound doing that, thats like 700 cals below maintenance for you.

I can tell you with absolute certainty that no matter what, it's going to take many many months to lose 6 lbs with a BMI of 21. Crash diets won't do it, cuz once you stop, it'll come right back on.

As to HOW? Well, you need to have about a 300 calorie deficit, or even less, you need to be patient (it's gonna take a long time, and results won't be easilly measureable in any time period shorter then a month), and you need to mix up the types and times and amounts of food you eat at any one sitting. You need to be dedicated to a fault with your food groups, you need to exercise vigorously and you need to split time between weight training and cardio. I won't lie to you, it will be very hard to get there, and it may not happen at all for you permenantly, cuz this might be the weight your body likes. If it is, you CAN compromise by gaining more muscle and reducing fat, which will give you the appearance of being thinner then your weight. Remember, volume wise fat is much lighter then muscle so a muscle the size of an orange may weigh 3 lbs where a lump of fat the same size would be like 1/2 a lb (muscle is about 6X as heavy as fat. Plus it looks much better).

Personally I could care less what someone weighs if they look good. And fuzz, you don't have many pics up, but If that one of you with the camera is still relatively accurate, you have NOTHING to worry about!

I hope this helps you, you can email me if you have more specific quesitons.

The fitness assessment is a great idea! If you are down to 135 you are doing great. Are you sure you really gained? Or are you building muscle? When you've lost the fat you have to change your goals to toning...that is my opinion. So as to not be crazy about the scale #. At 135 I would put that scale away and keep up the good work!:flowerforyou:

I looked back and saw you've been struggling with this for a while and also in one post said you had eating disorders in the past and thought you might be pushing for a too hard of a goal.

Given all that, I completely agree with Banks. You probably need to reevaluate your goals--and eat more! My gosh--1200 is nowhere near enough for you.

    Hi

To start with...Great job regarding the weight loss

I also don't think u are eating enough
I started here at 5'7 and 155....started with 1490 cals a day (was told 1290, but thought I would faint)
I didn't exc but took care of a 3/4 yr old ALL day and never sat down
As I lost weight...initial goal was 140, then 135...I increased my cals
For a while I was eating 1700 cals and still loosing...so I am now at 2000 cals a day and as of this am weight 128
I seem to go up and down a pound or 1.5 pounds depending on how many occasions I cheat

I bought a package that came with a full fitness assesment (not just body fat % but cardiovascular fitness, endurance and flexibility) it also came with three training sessions. The whole thing was around $300. Pricey, but worth it. . .It was a great way to set better goals and quit living by the scale.

    Thanks everyone :)
BUT let me clarify...when I was eating 1490 cals for the first few months I didn't exc at all
As I lost weight, I actually became more motivated to loose weight
I'm still not a HUGE exc fan/or a fan of the gym....but I do jump on my home treadmill for 30-45min a day (7 days a week)
So, that's probably why I've been able to bump my cals and still loose/maintain

YES, whoever wants to borrow my kiddies they are up for grabs :)

FUZZ if you want my opinion, I believe you should, at a minimum, be eating your BMR + exercise

which would be around 1400 + exercise. I would probably go slightly higher then that. I know it's not easy at first, but once you get the hang of eating more cals, it's really not that hard. The hardest part will be finding foods you like, that are good for you and calorie dense enough to up your cals. Nuts are a big part of that for me (almonds, pistachios (sp?), sunflower seeds, ahh chick peas...etc)
