So I've started the program in the past but haven't ever finished it and this time around I'm GOING to finish what I start. My new promise to myself.

So I was wondering if anyone would want to join me in the process. C25K stands for Couch to 5k, which is a program that gets you off the couch and in a matter of weeks has you running a 5k or 3.3 miles.

Here is the website if you want to check out the running schedule.... http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/index.shtml

I hope you join up! It will be nice to do this with a few of my MFP buddies!!

    Jenn,

I've done this before, successfully, and have continued to run, but I'm really slow. I still use the podcasts - most recently to build up to cycling for an hour on the stationary bike at the gym. I need to do more running, and find going through the C25k experience more energizing than just running alone, so I'm in - and I'll be working on speed :-) I have a 5k scheduled to run in mid-April, so I'll start at week 4.

Jan I'm the same way, my thing is I need to work on my speed when it comes to running. I did 5 min straight on the treadmill the other day and I was so proud of myself! LOL I hope to work up to a speed of 5-6 eventually.

The first time through I found out I had to slow down - a lot - in order to be successful. I basically didn't have enough cardio fitness to run very fast or very long. Over time, I've been able to build up time endurance at slow pace, around 4mph- you'll note from my signature I completed a 10k last fall - and slowly ran every step of the way! At mile 5.5 I was passed by a 69 y/o man who walks 5 miles every day for exercise.... he beat me by a full minute :-)

I had a little back injury after that and had to stop everything for a while. I got off-track for a bit, then slowly started back. In January I committed to myself that I'd login here for 180 days and train for a sprint triathalon. I started with walking, resistence training and yoga, then started working on a stationary bike, and now I'm able to attend hour-long cycle/spin classes. I have a dual goal each week - minimum of 5 miles walking/running and a minimum of 5 hours of exercise.

A couple of days ago, I couldn't get into a cycle class, so I did the week 3 c25k podcast with the run segments at 5mph. So last night, same thing, couldn't get into cycle, so I tried week 4 c25k with run segments at 5 mph. The 3 minute runs were pretty easy, but the 5 minute runs were a challenge. But I did them, and my heart rate stayed under 160. I'm finding 140's are challenging but comfortable, low to mid 150's are hard, and 160's aren't sustainable.

If I can work through c25k at 5mph, that would be a major accomplishment.

Ok, I was clearly delusional when I wrote that - more like 120's are comfrotable, mid 130's are challenging, 140's are working really hard and 150's aren't sustainable.
