MyPyramid Food Guidelines

Lately I've noticed that when I have extra calories left over at the end of the day, I tend to use them to give myself a treat like a small bowl of ice cream or half a candy bar...only this happens almost every night. I found that I was using a good chunk of my calories on sweets and "extras". I haven't lost any weight in two weeks (partially due to spring break) and need to change up what I'm doing. So I looked up the Food Pyramid and decided to try to follow the recommendation for getting enough vegetables, grains, proteins. etc. Hopefully by following these guidelines, I can choose healthier options to fill my calories for the day and feed my body better.

I just wanted to share my experience with other members and was wanting some opinions if anyone goes by these recommedations or something similar. Or do you just stay within your calories and eat what you want and still lose weight?

please continue sharing as you move forward. I always recommend the food pyramid as a starting point for people. When asked I always tell people: "treats are treats because they are rare, if you have a treat every day, it's not a treat, it's part of your nutrition plan". Adding to that thought, if your daily nutrition plan includes ice cream and/or candy, well... probably not a great idea. Hey, I'm all for getting those things maybe once every other week or so, but not daily. Heck, I could even see once a week if you're good on all other aspects.

    Good luck!

Keep in mind the food pyramid is based on 2000 cal per day, so something will have to give a little. Good Luck!!
