i was really craving a good veggie burger tonight. i'm not a vegetarian, but i like to have a meatless meal once in a while.

i bought one box of dr. praegers california burgers, and one of the tex-mex.. the tex-mex was the better of the two (the california tasted like soggy cardboard), but i was thoroughly unimpressed - as was the rest of the family. my girls wouldn't even touch them after the first "nibble."

so i'm polling the audience.. which veggie burger has the best flavor and isn't too "mushy" ?

I have only tried them once. I had the Morning Star grillers and they were not mushy at all, really easy to cook. Just heat in the oven. I thought they were pretty tasty, but nothing to compare them to, since I have never eaten them before.

I don't know who makes them but I love black bean burgers. They are not mushy and really don't taste like a veggie burger. Ok it doesn't taste like a beef burger either. :grumble:

I know you said you were looking vegetarian meals but if you are looking for something that tastes like a beef burger with less fat try a buffalo burger. Same family (bovine) so it tastes just like beef but a lot healthier. Yummy.:flowerforyou:

My favorite veggie burger is the Morningstar spicy black bean burger. They are so good.

I cook them in the microwave for 30 seconds on each side... then put them in a pan on the stove with a spray of olive oil to crisp them up. I like to melt a piece of reduced fat provolone cheese on top. I serve it on whole wheat toast with 2 tbsp. of fresh salsa. YUMMY!

Boca Burgers Flame Grilled or Portobella Mushrooms.
You must pan fry them to make them good. Microwaves makes them ICKY GROSS.

I usually opt for portobello mushrooms marinated in balsamic vinegar and italian dressing and put it on a bun if I need the carbs, if I want a ready made veggie product I love the south western rice patties by Morningstar they're really low cal and taste great. I've tried their burgers before and one I hated and one I loved but it gives me gas :embarassed: lol I can never remember which is which though.

My favorite is Gardenburger Black Bean Chipotle, but they have gotten very hard to find where I live. I hope you have better luck. They taste just like the old Bell Beefers they used to have at Taco Bell.
