Ok I have been here for about a month and have lost 8 pounds by counting calories only and going to the gym one day a week. Here is my question should I be counting both or just calories?

Thanks

I have my food diary set up to review calories, carbs, protein, fat, and sugar. I used to track sodium but eat very clean and healthy so don't need to as I am always low in this area.
Sounds like you have been doing a good job but pretty soon your body gets used to what you are doing and slows down on the weight loss. It would be a good idea to track the other micro nutrients to start to get a feel for the daily limits on those areas so you can tweak your plan in future.

Personally I mostly just watch my calories BUT I do try to make sure that I stay at my fat% for the day or just below. If I go over though, I don't freak out b/c we're all human and are going to have those days! I want to do this for the long run and life is going to happen! I've had days that I've gone over on calories too and I'm trying to just accept that sometimes this is going to happen once in a blue moon as well. No point in freaking out and throwing in the towel, tomorrow is anothe day!

You should keep your fat within the range, not going over, but you do need some fat. If you start to plataea you might consider making sure the fat you eat is lean or healthy fats, does that make sense? Good job with your weight loss:)
