Running Beginner: Getting up to speed?

Options
This seems like a cool tool to get from 0 to running a 5k: http://www.djsteveboy.com/intervals.html (and beyond)

basically it's music, with intervals of varying BPMs to keep you on track- so you just keep time to the beat.

Has anyone done anything like this? Did it help you?

Couch to 5K is a popular program that does work.

    interesting!

I did intervals with a personal trainer to get ready for my 8K in April... 10K in June... and half in August. This seems like it is formulated the same way but with music instead of a trainer telling you to slow down/speed up.

    Good luck!

I currently have an iphone and last year when completely my first 10k and half marathon I used an app called MapMyRun. I now use on called MiCoach as this has loads of training plans and guided training on your runs. Definitely worth a look if you have an iphone!

Shame about my lack of motivation though...i have a 10k in May and haven't clocked many miles at all! My fitness has gone down the pan since last year :( All I can advise is stick at it and whatever excuse you conjure up in your head to not go for a run - IGNORE IT! You'll feel better after and benefit greatly from pushing yourself (I should also learn to listen to my own advice!)
