I have caught on to several buzz words and phrases around the site since joining last month. I'm good on most of them, but I can't really wrap my head around "eating clean." At it's basest level, I get it, but what exactly does it consitute? What are some examples of things you use to "eat clean?"
It's one of those things I read over and over and over again, but no one really explains it further, and no one else ever asks :)
Thanks so much!

My husband and I have been "eating clean for 7 weeks now and love it.

I heard about it through a friend and thru reading books by "Tosca Reno", she very knowledgeable in this subject.

It is basically cutting out processed foods, junk foods and sugar. You eat every 2-3 hours six times a day as opposed to eating three square meals a day.

I think it honestly means different things to different people, but it is basically trying to cut the junk out of the diet.

To me, when I eating "clean" it means that I am eating fresh veggies (preferably organic), fresh fruits, fresh lean meats, and only grain products that are from the whole grain like whole wheat pasta or whole grain brown rice. I eliminate processed foods as much as possible and do not eat things that you buy in cans, jars, or boxes. My recipes consists of things that are a collection of items that have only 1 ingredient...tomato sauce for pasta in my house is made of simply tomatoes and spices, for example.

Basically, the closer you get to nature, the cleaner the food is.

My perspective is eating whole foods. No prepackaged processed foods, no junk food, no fast food. Basically cooking from scratch and incorporating a lot of fresh fruits and veggies, lean protein, etc.

I am trying to do this as much as possible. I used to pack a lean cuisine everyday for lunch but gave up processed foods about 2 months ago. One day I was in a hurry and just grabbed one for lunch. It gave me the worst stomach pains after I ate it! Gassy, bloated, crampy and completely uncomfortable being so far away from a bathroom. :noway: didn't know what was going on with my stomach. lol Needless to say, I decided I am sticking to my clean eating. I do feel a lot better now - less heartburn, indigestion and crazy stomach issues.

I am on day12 of eating clean whih to me refers to eliminating processed foods, flour, and sugar. Eating very lean meats with no visible fat (mostly organic), and fruits and vegies. I have also eliminated dairy products though I don't know if that is necessary to "eat green".

Thanks, everyone! That's pretty much what I thought it was. It's good to have it clarified, though.
