Hi everybody!

I tried out my HRM today for the first time tonight and was surprised by how many calories I burned>

what are your thoughts? how accurate is this? More/less than gym equipment/wii?

maybe it's an obvious answer, but I just want to make sure I'm logging accurately.

Thanks!

As long as you set it with the correct height/weight/ female or male, etc, it should be pretty accurate. Make sure your settings are correct if you are in doubt.

I have a polar HRM, and they are the best! I couldn't go to the gym w/o one.
  • Hi there,

I have the Polar FT4 and I love it, I think the fact that it uses a chest strap makes it more accurate. I use an app called smartrunner on my phone, it tracks me using GPS and it is usually spot on with the HRM when it calculates calories burned whilst I'm out walking, so that makes me thing that the HRM is pretty accurate too. Some people here have suggested that no HRM is 100% accurate and you should only enter 80% of the suggested calories burned. Others swear by the bodybugg, or fitbit. I love my HRM, but I think it's only really accurate if you use it for actual physical exercise as opposed to just wearing it all day like the bodybugg to see how many calories you burn doing daily activities.

i have the exact same one, and i LOVE it..i feel it is more accurate than what i was using before with my workouts, which was ea sports active 2 on the wii, that came with arm and leg monitors..best of luck :)

Ditto what dcdc12 & Christy_frank say! Although my husband used mine last night and when I worked out today and didn't rest the weight I was really shocked at my calories burned... but quickly figured it out.

You'll see the calorie burn decrease as you lose weight. Good Luck!
