Crazy Things at the Gym!

How many of you have seen some crazy things at the gym?? Here are my top 3:
1) A young guy doing push ups while in a handstand position, then falling over the sitting row machine he didn't see in his way.
2) I was on the eliptical for about 10 mins when an older gentleman hopped on the one beside me. 5 minutes later, his trainer (a cute girl in a tight tank top) came up and said hi. The first thing he said - 'Oh I can't believe I have been on here for 25 minutes right now, I'm not even tired!" Well, no kidding, you were on there for 5 MINUTES!
3) Another guy lifting weights snorting like a pig every time he did a bicep curl with some sort of ridiculous barbell. To all the guys out there who lift really heavy weights - I understand it's difficult, but making pig noises and only doing 3 curls does not classify as a full workout
Anyone else have some good stories? :P

The girl I see in the locker room putting on her full makeup BEFORE coming to Zumba, and most of the time showing up late because she was applying said makeup.0

I worked at the gym in college. My favorite thing was watching people fall off of treadmills! (there was little to do for entertainment in this gym, lol). I've never see anyone have anything injured other than their pride or I'd feel bad, but it's like the funniest thing ever!0

This one is funny, there is this guy who comes in big guy/muscular looks like he could kick anyones butt. he always has his ear buds in and sings... I mean loud one side of the gym to the other you can hear him and he sounds like a 12 year old girl.
There is another guy who looks all rough and tough, huge guy.. hes always bobbin his head you think oh hes listening to some hard core stuff, oh no its like white chicks he listens to like christina, britney- well at least the times I could hear the music
the one thing I hate is the way guys always grunt when lifting-it always sounds um dirty... :laugh:0 -

LOL I'm the girl taking OFF my make up before Zumba or anything I do because I sweat like a pig and it's absolutely disgusting!0 -
Me too! lol I dont get how girls can do that0

There's a lady that comes to my gym occasionally and "runs" on the treadmill. Well, she actually dances like a fairy...high stepping, skipping, swinging arms about wildly and twisting her torso into contortions. She squeals randomly as she listens to her ipod. No clue what its all about but it's always fascinating watching her.0

Watching people at the gym is better than watching people at an airport. It is entertaining. Hope nobody is watching me.... : )0

Yesterday in spin class, girl next to me talking on her phone 5 minutes before the class starts, said to whoever's on the other line, 'yeah girl, I'm in a spin class. I know it's hardcore but I'm totally up for it. No I know, right, I'm gonna be like sweating and stuff, I know! I'm gonna look so good and stuff!'
Fair enough, props to her for getting into spin cuz it is a damn hard class...but then...for 60 minutes...she was next to me...not sweating..not riding like we were all riding..she was basically lightly pedalling the entire time as if she was just strolling down Central Park!...I've NEVER seen anyone not sweat in spin...her face wasn't even a little bit glistened and she wasn't even out of breath! She's gonna have to work a little bit harder if she wants to look like what she's saying to her friend on the phone....0 -

Ever since I switched from a private gym to the YMCA, my life has gotten so much more interesting...I see so many people wearing jeans and nice shirts. It cracks me up. One time I saw a girl come to the gym, hop on the treadmill, sprint for 30 seconds without a warmup or cool down, and then leave. xD0

[qI see ladies all the time worried about breaking a sweat! Or messing up there hair! I think if you came here to lose weight, why are you worried about a little sweat! They will get off the tread mill 5 min. after they start if they start to sweat!

There are some funny stories here. I go to a University gym, so it's about 75% 18-21 year olds. They spend more time being social than working out. Besides sitting on the machines while talking to each other and not working out, I see people texting and talking on the phone all the time. I saw this one girl who would do one leg press and then stop and text for a few minutes and then do another leg press. She was on the machine for about 10 or 15 minutes and I think she did about 8 leg presses. I see this kind of stuff all the time. What's the friggin point of going to the gym if you are going to be on your phone the entire time? Leave those darn things in the locker room or don't waste your time coming to the gym to begin with.
And before this gym I went to a gym that was in one of Chicago's gay neighborhoods. I used to see guys nearly break their necks while checking out other guys while running on the treadmills. It was a meat market!0 -
i used to go to the gym at night...from around 8:30 to 10pm. there were 2 guys that used to arrive together around the same time(i'd put them around 35yrs old), hang out at the machines...they'd do like 10 reps each of one exercise then stand there and talk for 5 minutes...then on to the next machine..this lasted for about 20-30 minutes. then at 10pm i'd leave and see them still in the parking lot smoking their brains out...so i came to the conclusion that #1--they just used the gym as an excuse to get away from their wives and kids (yes, wedding bands confirmed they were married) or #2--they were having an affair with each other and met up at the gym...
and crazy pet peeve....using any machines or weights after a smoker has touched them...ew yuck.0 -

This reminded me of that - I think, Lund - boat commercial, where the girl is on the phone and talks about working out for three minutes and "oh, my, word, I almost broke into a sweat!" :laugh:0 -

The Lund commercial...is that the one when the guy hits the eject button and she goes flying off--cuz that is hilarious!!!0 -
Guys that shave naked in the locker room or the ones that feel the need to have a conversation with me as they stand there butt *kitten* naked. PUT YOUR CLOTHES ON!!!0

I used to live in Seoul, South Korea - now that's a funny place to people watch at a gym. Most of the girls were terrified of sweating and actually walked really slow on a treadmill all the while watching their favorite Korean drama. I'd be doing leg presses while a Korean guy would come over and say "no, no...too much-e" and motion for me to lower the weight (probably because I was pressing twice his weight) Their spin classes were like dance clubs, with crazy strobe lights and crazy techno music. We used to actually dance and sway while spinning - quite the adventure. Oh, and everyone walks around butt naked all the time in change rooms. And they sometimes blowdry "down there" with a public hairdryer (I kid you not)0

I have assigned names to people at the gym...there are a whole cast of characters:
The Huffer: Old, very large man with an ankle the size of a spaghetti squash. He gets on the elliptical and peddles as fast as he can while "huffing" and blowing. I mean with every exhale he blows his breath as hard as he can. One day he will explode, I just know it. Oh, and he is too lazy to park in a parking spot so he parks on the curb in front of the front door. He does this most days and acts like he just ran 45 miles....but he is not getting smaller. I refuse to workout any more if he is there. I have to disinfect the elliptical before I will even get on it. Nasty.
Gum Chewer: Older guy that wears white knee socks and must have "his" programming on said flat screen he is facing. He does this undescribeable arm swinging body move in rythem with his gum smacking on the elliptical.
No Sweat Suzi: Lady with diamonds dripping off her. It's the only thing dripping. She does not sweat. But she wants you to think that those 1 lb weights she is lifting are soooo heavy and she is working soooo hard!0 -
There is a guy in my gym that walks around with a gallon jug of Arizona Ice T. LOL0

Hahaha, I remember one night a friend and I went to the gym to work out (I had just gotten off work in retail, so I was already a hot mess lol) but we were both just wearing shorts, tank tops/t-shirts that were old and ratty, hair pulled back in ponytails (naturally curly so frizzy all over lol) and our ratty tennis shoes... We had really came to work out.
Well, halfway across the gym we saw these 2 girls who looked like pictures from athletic clothing ads, the cutesy tight capri type pants and matching tank tops and their shoes even matched (funny thing is, the 2 girls were wearing the same outfit pieces even down to the shoes, just separate colors) and their hair was long and straight pulled back into ponytails with matching headbands... I was like "This is a gym, not a catwalk... Who cares what you look like?" lol0 -
Actually, the grunting (and even screaming) helps with increasing the intra-abdominal pressure to support the organs and spine while doing heavy weights. I even do it when I'm at 80%+ of my one rep max. Works way better then a weight belt. That being said, you don't have to do it on every rep, if so then you're doing do heavy a weight or are just acting out.
My pet peeves are people with bad form. My back hurts from watching the "swingers" in the gym. You know, the guys who swing the weight up using their low back muscles instead of their biceps when doing bicep curls, etc.
Yesterday, I saw a guy walking the track while holding 15 pound dumbbells. While I understand the thought process of adding weight to walking if you just can't bring yourself to increase the speed to increase the intensity, he looked silly. He was holing his elbows up even with his shoulders and his arms bent so the weights were really close to his face. All I could think what that I hoped he didn't have a shoe come untied because if he tripped that would be some seriously expensive dental work, not to mention the risks of a broken nose or worse if anything he broke was shoved into the brain.0 -

Now there's a good story. "no, no...too much-e" Hilarious.
Were you teaching English there, per chance? My bf did that for awhile.0 -

I name people too.
Boobs: Babe with a perfect body who wears super short shorts and tight tanks and casually pedals on the recumbant bike. Man, I wish I were at the point where that's all I had to do.
Hoodie Creep: Goes balls out on every cardio machine for about 5 mintues each, hood up, dripping sweat all over the place and never once doing a wipe down. UGH
The Lazy Neighbors-These are our actual neighbors and they drive to our gym everyday. Our gym is literally across the street. They are fit and in their 20's.0 -
I am one of those girls who has to look cute when working out. :blushing: I can't help it, I just like looking cute. My stuff all matches and I usually have a little makeup on.
The first Zumba class I went to there was a lady wearing one of those mylar sweat suit things. I kept expecting her to pass out from dehydration. Maybe she thought it would help her burn more calories :noway:0 -
LOL the story from Korea made me laugh - I once saw an older lady standing in front of the dryer with her towel funneling the air down :P I thought it was the funniest thing!0

there is this girl that comes into the gym almost every day im there she kinda creeps me out cause she will get onto whatever machine is next to me go super super slow for no more then 5 mins then get off and go sit down and text then soon as i move to a new machine she repeats again to add to all this she is always in the gym wearing fancy clothes and heeled boots????0
