I'm sure this has been asked before ;-) Exercise logging.

M- F, I workout at a 45 min hardcore bootcamp 4x week (sometimes 3 :embarassed: ). I take Wednesdays off. Other than that, my lifestyle is lightly active/sedentary.

Yesterday I cleaned the house for FOUR HOURS. :noway: I logged it as cleaning, light to moderate, and I only put in 100 minutes instead of the 240 I really did.

Am I cheating? Should I have not bothered at all? Typically I don't log things like housecleaning. I only log my bootcamps. But damn it, that was a long time!

Whatcha think?

I would say if the extended house cleaning is not something that you do all the time, then log it. I would probably underestimate my time too, just to make sure I didn't count too much burn if I wasn't using my HRM.

I would say it's ok. I generaly cut the time short and only do it when it's an extreme workout and unusual for me (ie: intense yard work or scrubbing a vacant house for inspection). I found that I only burn an extra couple hundred calories with my most intense exercise, apparently my body is pretty efficient.

What is your activity level set at? If is is sedentary then I know people will log their 4 hours of house cleaning and such. If you have it set for lightly or moderately active then I would skip the cleaning burn rate. I carried my 2 year old (about 25lbs) around walmart for 20-30 minutes. I thought "I deserve some exercise cals for this" but I like to know I have some extra calories burned in waiting in case I didn't log the correct portion size in my food log or such.

I don't know what your "cleaning" consists of, but my vacuum is really heavy and cumbersome and when I take it from room to room and up and down the stairs, I am exhausted. Laundry is another biggie, and bending down and standing up to dust, pick up things, move furniture, shake rugs, etc., whatever! Whew I am tired just thinking about it! You go ahead and log your cleaning cause you are definitely getting a workout!! :flowerforyou:

If i'm moving furniture around, or doing extended cleaning, like way over the usual, then i half the time, and log that - def dont think you're cheating!

Log anything that's "movement" for a sustained period of 5 minutes or more. It's about calories in/calories out, and cleaning house is calories out, even if you only do it for 30 minutes.
