Diabetic numbers are down!

I had my 3 month check up today (on meds for diabetes/High BP & Cholestrol) and I couldn't be more pleased with my numbers! I began this journey in April 2009 with a new doctor...she has been a God send. I started at my highest of 218 lbs. I'm only down 24 lbs now (with having lost 8 of those since last Nov), but am able to really keep it off and have been losing, slowly but at least losing. Anyway with my last visit my A1C number was 8 and it has to be below 7. My BP is perfect, my pulse is perfect, my cholestrol is perfect and all the rest of my numbers! My doctor was very please and said that most of what brought my numbers down was my exercising. I've become hooked on walking/jogging (only 1-2 min jogging in between minutes of walking). I've begun to add in strength training and it all feels so good! I'm eating so much better and finding how much fun it is to look up recipes that sound good and then make them healthier. I have found so much support through the internet and so appreciate it all. I just wanted to say...the doctor's are right...simply eating right and exercise is basically all you need to become a healthier person. I'm so grateful to finding this site...so much easier to track my numbers!

Way to go...I myself was diagnosed with Type 2 last August and my a1c was 11.2...At my first 3 month follow up it was down to 6.2 and then my last one in February was at 5.8 If I can get it down just 1/10 of a percent I might be able to go off some meds.

Great work, it is tough but once you get into a pattern it feels so good when you have those doctor's appts. I went from about 235 pounds when I was diagnosed to now being at about 191 pounds. KEEP IT UP...I use the possibility of getting of some meds even if only on a trial basis as my motivation.

    YOU CAN DO THIS...

Just remember that when you lose all the weight that you want to lose that you need to learn how to maintain that weight. If you can maintain a weight that resides in your optimum BMI range, you'll be sitting on top of the world for a long time.

Sure you can lose weight without exercise but exercise has so many other benefits!! And what's the point in being skinny if you're not healthy!

My brother was diagnosed back in December. His sugar levels were 4x what they were supposed to be.

With exercise and a change in his diet (and pills) he is at normal levels. SO CONGRATS TO YOU!!!!

My dad went from being diagnosed to being on dialysis 3x a week in less than 20 years by not controlling it.

Congrats to you, and Patio - and I'm a member of this club, too! My numbers (lipids, sugars, cholesterol, bp) are now all normal, across the board - after having been diagnosed with type 2.

Now the challenge for us is maintainance of this regimen - forever.

Hey MFP staff - if you're listening - congrats to you as well, for being a part of what has enabled us to do this!
