Just a matter of getting stronger! When I first got the game, I couldn't get up either, but now that I've been working those muscles more I can hold it for a lot longer than the game has you hold it. Bend the lower knee so you're supported on the knee rather than your foot, and try it that way for a while. You'll eventually get stronger, and it will feel AWESOME! :)

It takes time I couldn't do the straight arm planks on there but eventually I could hold for 30 seconds. Just build up to it. Try lifting your hips up a little and hold as long as you can.

I have 3 more workouts until i finish the 9 week program. When i first started, I was unablet o do them as well but now I am actually pretty good at them. DO you have it for Wii or XBOX?

I just finished the 3-week cardio kickstart program on Active2, and will be starting the 9 week program soon. I discovered side arm planks during yoga class, but it wasn't a bent arm. I had to balance up on my hand. It's more tough that way!

But the advice someone gave me during yoga helped me get my hips off of the floor. Instead of stacking one foot on top of the other, put the side of your foot on the floor and the other foot will go on the floor in front or behind the other foot (whichever one is more comfortable). This will help you get more of a foundation. When you push off with your hips, you are going to want to create a slight rainbow with your body where your core is higher. This uses less core muscles than when you are holding at a straight angle. When your core is strong enough, you can drop your hips to challenge it more.

There is a modification of bending the bottom leg to brace your knee on the floor until you are ready to do the full side plank. Check out this photo to see what I mean:

We do them at my circuits class, and they are by far the hardest part! I do 8 seconds up, 4 on the floor, 8 up again etc. I just can't hold it!

You have to realize that the muscles you use in doing those side planks aren't used very often. It's not a movement you do in your everyday life. You have to actively focus on strengthening those muscles, so I think it's pretty normal for people not to be able to do them at first. :)
