Question on water

Years ago, my family doctor told me to always drink my diet drinks in a glass with ice bringing water into the mix. I did for a while but soon quit. Recently, I started back to drinking my diet drinks with ice again. If the ice doesn't melt in the drink, I always finish it off! Does that count for water? I also drink water with ice as well, but I was just curious if anyone has ever been told about ice.

I am not really sure but I would think if the drink is caffinated then the ice will offset the water loss as a result of the caffiene. Caffiene causes dehydration.0

I drink my wine with ice and soda water but I still seem to get drunk..... :laugh:
It makes sense that ice will melt into water. Its a good idea, altho I dont think you're cancelling out the rubbish in soda (or wine!), just drinking more water, which is good for the liver, I would think :bigsmile:0 -
Ice counts as water I guess, but I wouldn't think if you're just adding ice to your drinks that you're getting an adequate amount of water each day. For example, if you have an 8 oz. glass and you put some ice in it and fill the rest up with diet pop, you can't count that as 8 oz. of water...
I used to have a lot of trouble drinking water because it was just so boring. I noticed that if I squeeze a little lemon in it or drink it through a big straw (like one from McDonald's) it tends to go down a lot easier.0 -
I think he was trying to get you to use ice to dilute the "non-sugar" content in the soda. Although there are no calories to diet soda, they still will promote the urge to eat and/or drink more carbs. In other words, they affect the system the same way as sugar, and are probably just as bad on the kidneys as sugar. Hope this helps.0

Thanks all who answered....I'm sure that he was working on me adding more water cause he KNEW I wasn't going to give up the diet soda!!! LOL It is low-sodium and I don't drink coffee so the caffeine really isn't an issue...never had a problem with it. Just so you guys won't worry...I do get my water in throughout the day. I usually drink a glass of diet soda and won't drink another till I get a couple of glasses of water in. I also use a squirt of fresh lemon juice to give a zip to the water. Thanks again!0
