At my highest weight I was 328 lbs about 8 years ago. Two years ago, I had gotten 67 lbs off. Unfortunately I put about 25 back on. In Jan I joined MFP and I’m now in the process of decreasing again. I have a friend who doesn’t work out and says she’s lost about 15 lbs. She says she has loose skin, yet I don’t. I do work out most days of the week sometimes I will walk on my breaks at work and then do a workout DVD at home. Could it be that I’m dropping the weight with diet and exercise that I don’t have the loose skin issue?

Yes...at least that's what I've experienced as well as several of my friends. Exercise and a healthy rate of weight loss reduces extra skin. As a former nurse, I know there are some "trouble" spots of skin that it might not help, but for the most part keep doing what you're doing! I have 2 friends that both have the lapband, one did no exercise & lost over 100lbs in a year...had to have a full body lift b/c of excessive skin...the other one, exercised daily & lost slower (still 100lbs lost) and has no excessive skin...they are the exact same age btw. Keep up the good work! Hope I helped.

It does, thanks so much. I was starting to get worried since I still have 80 to go!

My weight loss has been a very slow, healthy process of eating right and exercise. I also do some strength training/toning for the past year but I did not at first, just mostly walking and cardio. I have very little loose skin. This is actually one of the reasons I have taken this so slowly and a couple of times have even eaten at maintenance to take a break for my body to adjust. I'm hoping as I finish up and try and loose this stubborn belly fat that I will stay with just a little bit of loose skin. They say to also wait a year after your weight loss and some of it might adjust and tighten. Good Luck, but I would not worry too much, it sounds like you're on the right track! Moisturizing helps too I think!

I use a cocoa and shea butter lotion for that very reason. Thanks!

I've lost quite a bit over the past 3 years and initially noticed a lot of loose skin. Once I started adding strength routines to my exercise, I definitely toned and tightened. Still have a little bit of the bat wings (but then again most women, except those super skinny ones, seem to develop them as we age). I have loose skin on my thighs but I carried a lot of weight in my hips and thighs so I think that may always be there. Oh and the boobs just aren't what they used to be, not much can do about that.

Honestly though, I really don't care about the loose skin. I look great in clothes, my hubby is the only one that sees me nekkid, and if someone stares when I'm in my bathing suit - they can look all they want. They stared when I was fat, they'll stare when I'm thinner, they'd stare if I had Kim Kardashian's body. I'm happy with how I look and feel so even though I'm more of a "5" then a "10", in my mind I'm a 12.

It all depends on HOW MUCH weight is lost, how fast, your age, your genetics, etc. There are som many factors no one person can really answer this for you....

I can say, yes I have loose skin...but, hell, I lost over 200 pounds with gastric bypass. Losing that amount of weight it is inevitiable. Your body cannot stretch to more than double or triple it's normal size and you NOT have skin that is stretched out and irrepairable without plastic surgery.

To look at my pic <
to the left. You would never know what was under there. A girdle is a wonderful thing! I will never be able to afford plastic surgery unless I a) either win the lottery (gotta play to win) or b) some one in my family dies and leaves me tens of thousands of dollars (and I would rather have my family around for a VERY long time).

Maybe if I hadn't ballooned myself up to nearly 400 pounds at one point in my life the loose skin would not be so bad, but I could care less at this point. I can run up those stairs, fit in an airplane seat, sit at a booth at a resteraunt, cross my legs, walk down the street with my head held high, and not be concerned that people are staring at me bcause I am the biggest person in the room.
