So I'll be eating, and she's sitting in the floor giving me the stank eye. I keep telling her people food gives her hell gas, but she doesn't listen. She will occasionally grumble, or show me her teeth.
Then I make my mistake. I say to myself "Stop eating! You've had enough!" Then she gets what I shove away in disgust.

She seems to be enjoying the situation.

well then if you're going to feed her you need to walk/run her. It's not like she's going to get in the car and drive to the gym. You don't want to shortedn her life. :)

Awe...puppies are so cute. I'm guilty of giving my girls some people food too. We took them to the vet this past Saturday and they are both overweight by about 10%..so now they're on a diet. Our vet told us about a study that overweight dogs die 2 years earlier than normal....and I want my girls around for a LONG time...so, they're dieting :) My vet said that we could cut their food down and add in either no salt canned green beans, or some canned pumkin. My girls love the pumpkin, and then they feel like they're getting enough food, but the calories are way less.

Ah well....take her out for a run. On the flip side, if the food is making her fat then maybe it's not the best choice for you either?

My dogs are perfect weight, coat is shiny and glossy, no bad breath and they are healthy.

I feed my dogs a grain free dry kibble at 2 cups per day, usually Fromm or Precise, my Ginger girl is very picky but she loves the pork and applesauce formula that Fromm has. They also get a piece of raw chicken (bones are ok as long as its raw), spinach, brocolli, pumpkin, yougrt and berries. I also give a tablespoon of raw coconut oil each day.

In their water I put 2 tablespoons of Braggs raw apple cider vinegar.

I make dehydrated beef, chicken or sweet potato for their dog treats.

I feed my dogs clean and low carb just as my husband and I do. There is no reason to give grains to dogs.

My dog can burn a hole right through you the way she stares when we eat. And I got her in the routine that if I got up to go to the kitchen, she would get food, so she wil run and jump in circles and almost trip you shes so excited for what MIGHT go in her bowl...mind yiou shes an austrailian shepard so if she gets in your way you really do trip all over her. But when we used to eat out a lot, she would get fat cause she would always get the leftovers of my sandwhiches or id throw her some fries....now i don't feel so bad because i view it as "healthy" food im giving to her...even though i don't think spagetti is all too healthy for a dog. One time she was sick though, so I made her chicken noodle soup and she loved it

That's me (30 or so pounds go, though) while cooking, with 5 of my partner's dogs looking on hopefully.

Please be careful when giving people food to dogs. Many things we routinely eat are toxic to them!

    Onions
    Garlic
    Chives
    Grapes
    Raisins
    Chocolate
    Macadamia Nuts
    Avocado
    Yeast dough
Alcohol(should be obvious, but it's on the list)
    Milk-most dogs are lactose intolerant
Raw eggs-OK in moderation, but can interfere with absorbtion of biotin, a necessary B vitamin
Xylitol-artificial sweetener in many sugar-free foods, creeping up in more foods (and medications) all the time

If you need to be able to tell at home whether your dog is at a healthy weight, here's an excellent gauge to use at home: http://www.purina.com/dog/weight-and-exercise/bodycondition.aspx

Thanks for the list, I had no idea grapes were bad for dogs. My beagle loves to play with them, guess I got to stop that.

I just got a beagle puppy about 4 months ago, he is so awesome. We also have an older Pit, he just went to the vet and they said he has a thyroid problem, which is why he is overweight.....he may now have to take medication for the rest of his life.......

Do tea cup Chihuahuas count as dogs? Cuz I adopted one a couple months ago, and he's too little to take on walks. He could fall in a hole. In the afternoons I usually put him in my pocket if I take him to the barn. Dogs aren't supposed to fit in your pocket.
