so, if the box of noodles says "200 calories in 1 cup (dry)", then how many calories are in 1 cup cooked? Or maybe easier.......what IS the same thing cooked v. dry. For example, if 1 cup dry is 200 calories what is 200 calories cooked? 3/4 cup?

Normally I could weigh it out for the oz. or whatever but we're in the process of listing our house and my kitchen scale is in a box. DUH me!!!

It depends on how long you cook the pasta. If it is al dente it would be about 1 1/2 the times the size. If you cook it till it's really soft then it doubles in size. That is in estimate. It also depends of if it is whole wheat and what kind of pasta.
  • Uhm, not sure. I always measure mine dry and just count that. :) For example, you could measure it dry, cook it and see how much you ate. If you eat all of it, add the full 200 calories, but if you ate just half, add 100. I hope I make sense.

Well you can measure the full contents dry the the full amount cooked and do the math. If a full box gives you 3 cups and cooked gives you 4 cups then you know 1 cup cooked would equal 200*1.33.
Knowing that the difference between 3 and 4 cups is 1 cup you know that it increases by 33% 100/300. So 1 cup cooked using this info would give you 266 calories (200*1.33) 33% increase.

Unfortunately you would have to measure dry, then again cooked to get the correct info.

okay, so just to make sure I understand you right......If I cook it until it's really soft and I measure out 1 cup of cooked pasta, that would be 400 calories? I swear I'm not dumb, just confused! hahaha =)

I assume you are cooking for the family and need to measure after it's cooked so you don't have to make a separate pot for yourself. There are several entries for pasta in the database that list the calories based on 1 cup of cooked pasta. Try to find one that is comparable and use that. I found a generic entry that says 1 cup of cooked spaghetti is 200 calories.

I was basing my calculation as if you cooked for a full family. If you are only cooking 1 cup and 1 cup is 200 cals then no matter the size after it is cooked it will be 200 calories.

I have found an awesome calculator for things like this! I was scooping out a cup of noodles, and counting it as 8 oz, since there are 8 fluid oz in a cup. This was SO wrong. It's actually only about 4-5 oz! Unfortunately I can't tell you what the site is, since my computer is broken down and I'm using my husbands. But you can Google "Food equivalent calculator" or "Cups to oz calculator" It's a really helpful tool to use if you don't have a kitchen scale!
