Any hair stylists out there?
Hi all
I need serious hair help
I've had thyroid problems the last few years......cycts and nodules and had half of my thyroid removed (I am not on any medication)
My hair has become horribly thin, brittle, fragile....
Can u rec any products or anything to take orally (supplements) that could actually help with growth?
Any deep conditioners or products?
Also, I had my sytlist use a Bio Ionic curling iron on my hair recently and it held the curl all day through rain and snow..she said it was better for my hair etc
BUT it's $160....is it worth it?
Here is is on amazon for a little less
http://www.amazon.com/Bio-Ionic-Rotating-Styling-Curling/dp/B0046ZOWJU
I have a plain old conair but don't use it too often because of damage and it never hold the curl anyway..
Thanks for any input/advice

OK, I take pre-natal vitamins everyday (my youngest is 6 years old). They help with hair and nail growth. If you need a good hairspray, I use Aussie Volume (aerosol) and it holds no matter what, but I feel like I HAVE to deep condition afterwards with Aussie (3 minute miracle). Won't leave hair oily or gross. I also love their volume shampoo and conditioner. I should be getting paid for these endorsements. LOL0

Hello there, I am a hairstylist and also have hypothyroid. I would recommend doing protein treatments that your hair salon may offer and also I would use a volumizing hair shampoo and a volume conditioner. I would stay away from curling irons, any thermal plates because your hair needs to repair itself. I know that whole foods have many vitamins that are for hair and nails. I though cannot recommend the brand they are extremely helpful there. Any other questions don't hesitate and I will answer. all the best Isabella
p.s I wonder if removing thyroid would help with weightloss. Having an extremley difficult time0 -
My sister is a hairdresser and she has actually recommended that I take a prenatal vitamin for my hair issues which sound exactly like yours! I too have problems with my thyroid...bilateral nodules, thyroiditus (which surprisingly led to an overactive thyroid for a brief time but without the weight loss effects! lol) Anyway...because my hair falls out A LOT and has become very thin she had said that the vitamin would help strengthen at the roots and promote healthy growth. I should bring it up to her again and see if she can recommend anything else. There were a few different things she had said but I can't recall right now.
Good luck!0 -
Thanks all
I only found out about my thyroid issues when I had b/w because I was pg with dd (she will be 6 mext mnth) and the problems have continued with nodules, cysts etc but my b/w alwasy comes back normal
I feel sluggish though and my cycles are a mess..trouble sleeping...hair is thinning/breaking...seeing a new specialist again in a mnth..need to get current cyst drained.....hopefully he can shed some light
don't have issues with weight gain unless I over-eat
if I work out and watch cals I don't have trouble shedding the weight0 -
You had half of your thyroid removed, yet they didn't put you on meds?? DId they recommend you take anything?0

yes I had half removed because of suspicious nodules..had 2 needle biopsies prior and was not put on meds
now I have 2 fluid filled cysts on remaining hlaf..primary said specialist will likely drain and biopsy fluid
and was told i only needed to take something if b/w came back off.....but was told I only needed half...
