Question for the weight lifters out there.

Tomorrow I am starting a strength training/body building program.

First month or two I will be doing 5 core compound lifts. Squats, bench press, military press, bent-over rows, dead lifts...Might also do arm curls. Will be doing 3 sets of 5 to 7 reps each. With the deal lifts maybe only 1 or 2 sets. I will rest 1 or 2 minutes between sets. And stretching before and after. I did weight lift before but it has been over 25 years ago. Man am i going to be sore during the next week :frown:

The questions I have are: How accurate will my HRM with chest strap be during this? I don't think it will be very accurate. And if not accurate what formula do you use. I see some folks on here are very serious weight lifters and this question is geared towards them.

Just do your best with the HRM. After an hour or so, you will still be within +/- calories I'm sure. I round down to keep myself honest but I do try to make MFP as accurate (or should I say precise) as I can. It's a tool but your measure is what you see in the mirror, IMO. Don't fret over it too much.

You are correct that the HRM won't be very accurate.

The activity calculator on this site can get you an estimate: http://www.caloriesperhour.com/index_burn.php

Thanks for the advice and the link. I tend to be able to go over fairly frequently with my daily calories with no problems so plugging in 200 or so cals per 45 mins of lifting should not hurt at all.
