Expired
I ALWAYS throw out anything past the expiration date and my family gets mad at me and says I'm wasting food. What does everyone think about expiration dates?
Also, since I'm in bed with a cold & just took expired medicine cause that is the only thing we have... I'm debating whether or not to throw out all our old medicines and vitamins...
Expired medicine. Take or throw out?
If you keep past expiration, how long is too long???????

Expiration dates aren't a hard and fast after this date this item Will be bad. Just that the manufacturer can no longer guarantee the safety, flavor or efficacy of the product. Take milk for example, really easy to tell when it sours, on the use by date i would bet it's still drinkable for several more days. Medications are the same if they look the same as they should when still under expiration then they should be fine. The may become less potent. If medications became lethal after their expiration there would be some scary warnings from the fda on the bottles.
Not professional advice just some dudes opinion...0 -

Voice of experience on this one. Milk IS usable, but only up to 2 days after the "sell by" date as long as it doesn't smell, of course. My son fixed Kraft Dinner for himself 2 nights in a row without checking the "sell by" date on the gallon. Nothing happened to him & the milk had been past the "sell by" date by 2 days.0 -

Oh great... Last sentences...
"NOTE: This does NOT apply to medication -- expired medicine should go in the trash. But expired Fruity Pebbles? Hell, eat it and see what happens."
