I've been a member for two weeks now, but I only just now figured out how to start a post? I tried to introduce myself before, but it didn't work. I have been able to add comments to other posts, though.

I'm 60 years old, and an old hand at losing weight. That's because I always gain it back! I lost 50 lbs once, and I've lost 25 or more several times. I lost count of the times I lost around 10. Although I weigh 192 now, I would probably weigh 3 times that if I hadn' been on a diet all my life. I've finally figured out that's most of my problem. I look at it as being "on a diet" when I should see it as a lifestyle change. If I can do that, then I may not gain the weight back. I'm still working so it's easy to go through a drive through and get lunch. But instead of the Super Size meal with a large sugary drink, I should get a regular size one with a diet soda and just eat more slowly. Maybe I'll even pack my lunch occasionally. Those kinds of changes are easy to make!

By the way, I've lost 4 pounds as of today! Some would say that isn't much for two weeks, but for someone like me who's been gaining for the last several years, it's a major accomplishment! I celebrated this morning with a low fat biscotti and a cup of Kenyan coffee with creamer for breakfast-and only had 120 calories! Here's to lifestyle changes!

Now I'm going to look for some other senior postings.

4lbs is great. As to the losing weight and then gaining it all back, I hear the trick to not doing that is to make a lifestyle change, so that when you've lost the weight, you just add a few calories back in and maintain rather than gain it back.

That's what I plan on doing, true it might mean I'm food logging for the rest of my life, but I'm okay with that. I'd rather get fit and healthy then stay that way than lose weight then gain it all back again. Logging doesn't take me very long so it's no great loss of time to me.

I'm not a senior either but I think that anyone can make the changes in their life that they want to.

Four lbs. in two weeks is fantastic! Slowly changing your lifestyle is the way to go. I've been in maintenance mode since December 2010 and am still logging food and exercise. I also read Message Boards to keep me going.
