Not sure if this is the right place for this but.....does anyone/has anyone ever used the Windows Live programs? Do you HAVE to create an account or can you just use them? What is the benefit of having an account?

I just got a laptop that has Windows 7 and I'm having to learn about many new programs. I've done a little with the Photo Gallery but not much and it looks pretty cool.

For me to use the windows live stuff on my computer (msn messenger, free email via hotmail etc) I have to have an account, outside of those I'm not sure, but it's free, like MFP so no harm no foul? Just if you're worried about security at all make sure you use a different ID there than what you have here... but from your handle I'd say you're not too worried anyway :)

I use Live Writer quite a bit for blogging and I don't remember ever having to sign up.

We run Linux exclusively. There's a lot of FLOSS apps that run on Windoze, too.

Yea, I'm a linux admin and don't own a single windows computer, but I'll spare trying to convert you to linux... =)

But.. I do have a Live account since I use xbox live, besides that.. not many other worthy benefits... besides them mining every personal detail about you so they can use it for marketing, but even google and yahoo do that as well.
