HRM Question

I have a Polar HRM and I was wondering if the calories burned include my BMR. Do I need to subtract those calories to see an accurate burn, or does my HRM have that covered? I could not find a topic on this, but I remember reading about it a while back. Any help would be great!

I think that the calories you see are the actual calories burned since you placed the device and turned it on. It would be interesting to know if you keep the device on 24 hours if it will actually track all calories used in conjunction with your heart rate??0

I think to be the most accurate you would subtract the BMR but most of us don't bother to do that as it isn't that big a number unless you are working out for hours at a time. Even the calories reported by the HRM is just a calculation (the monitor measures heart rate directly, not calories which are calculated by a formula) and most of the food inputs are estimates in any case.0
