Hey, nice to be here. Everybody seems pretty amiable, so...glad to be here!
My story...I came back from Europe from a 4 month bike trip there and was a nice/perfect for me 185ish lbs (I'm 6'1"). I came back and was hit with a massive wave of depression, and basically couldn't stop eating 4000 calories a day. The doc put me on meds, but that made my metabolism slow down (I am apparently a borderline hypothyroid guy). Eventually the weight gain became more of a psychological monster than what it actually was...just overeating for the most part.
Anyways, eventually, (16 months later) I got on some decent anti-depressants that are mostly weight-neutral. By then, I was 283-284ish and figured that the 100 lbs mark was about time to draw the line. I went to see a dietitian, she said I needed to eat the 2400 calories a day. I wasn't totally convinced, but she seemed very confident in herself and her plan, so I gave it a shot, and it's worked quite well so far. I've lost 10 pounds in 6 weeks. My goal is to pretty much crucify the weight and get back to my rightful 185 asap. I know it might take a year or two, but I'll get there in due time.
So anyways guys, thanks for listening, and I look forward to using this site. It seems to be a good hub for like-minded folk.
Cheers
