Best time of day to take fiber supplement/drink?

Should you take a fiber supplement drink (such as metamucil or benefiber) before a meal? After a meal? Morning? Night? I dont' want it to mix with a meal and push that meal too quickly or anything like that. I was thinking I'd take it before bed since I have a nighttime eating problem anyways. I try to stop eating 2 - 3 hours before bed, so that fiber drink could be something I do right before retiring to help satiate my urge to eat.

Is that a good way to take it?

I tend to take one mid afternoon when I feel hungry but don't want to eat yet.

I think morning would be better in some ways.

Fiber supplements can also lower the effectiveness of any medications you may be taking. I take maintenance medication in the morning, so I won't eat anything like fiber one cereal until around 2, to make sure the medicine is fully absorbed.

Just something to consider, in case you have meds you need to take throughout the day.

Don't know how it would work with your body, but I tried fiber one as a late-night snack once and had bloating and cramps for the next 24 hours. I think you might not want to take a fiber supplement right before bed, since it might just sit there like a brick if your body gets still.

Ahhh, very interesting. I do not take any meds, but I do take a multivitamin. I do have a problem with mid afternoon eating, so I am thinking I may make that my fiber drink time! Good point about it sitting like a rock while I am inactive during the night!

Any suggestions for a drink? Is metamucil good?
