ALWAYS starved at night

blood sugar usually drops around night time. for dinner try eating more complex carbs to sustain your sugar levels through the night. or try eating more lower glycemic foods around dinner/night time.0

It's important to NOT EAT CARBS at night.....they are used for an immediate energy source. If you don't use them, you will store them....protein at night is much better to eat. If you want something sweet, mix cottage cheese or ricotta with a packet of splenda, raisins and cinnamon.....but no carbs! :-)
this is totally untrue. you dont store anything when you sleep. your body still needs to function and it'll burn those carbs first thing. wish people would do some research before they just spout whatever myths they've heard.0 -
have a cup of tea, brush your teeth, and go to bed!0

I have noticed that the food commercials at night look awesome even if they are restaurants I hate like KFC..I know though if I even eat one snack at night its a slippery slope for me I will not stop with one..So I just ignore it and drink more water which does seem to help0

Also, I LOVE that when you exercise, you can eat more, so I work out a ton!
THIS!
I've heard it said "diet to lose weight, exercise to get fit", but that just makes me go :noway:
For me, it's definitely "diet to lose weight, exercise to be able to eat decent stuff!"
(And, of course, the fitness is a *real* nice perk!)
Of course, now that I'm up to 1700 calories a day according to the site, maybe I'll finally feel like I can eat a normal dinner *without* worrying about going over for the day!0 -
I had the same problem. I figured it out that I wasn't eating enough throughout the day. I wasn't eating all of my calories for a day and I was eating very light food. Once I started eating more filling foods and all or most of my calories for the day (plus 8 glasses of H2O) I stopped binging at night. Good Luck!0

I do it alllll the time and have never had an issue losing. I not only eat at night... I eat late at night and I work night shifts part time so I go from eating all day to eating all night instead several days of the month. I don't think it has anything to do WHEN you eat at all. I eat at night so that I can sleep better and not wake up hungry!0 -
I also find that when I workout at night I won't want to eat! Most of the time I have to workout really late because it's the only time the kids aren't needing something!
On days when I don't workout at night though I also want to eat EVERYTHING! I'm not even sure I'm hungry, I just have major junk food cravings. It helps if I just go to bed and forget about it0 -
I'm exactly the same. I just always make sure I have calories left over in the evening and then munch on fruit throughout the evening. I also eat my dinner a little later than some maybe would, if I get really hungry then I'll make it but if not I try to hold out til about 7pm and then I feel satisfied later on into the night.0

I distribute my calories so I tend to eat the most of them at nite. A lot of people say they won't eat at nite (ie I eat dinner between 8 & 9 pm) because it will affect weight loss but does/'t affect me. I think it comes down to calories in verses calories out. I also have been trying to go to bed a little earlier. Finally, try to keep occupied... reading, embroidery.0

Idle hands are the devils play... and in my case, when I am sitting doing nothing...that devil starts calling my name. I will admit it, I eat when I am bored. So I keep busy! If i'm active, I'll be less inclined to open the fridge and stare into that pit of despair.
The other thing I do is try to eat balanced meals thru the day. Try breaking your meals down into smaller meals more often.
I eat about 5 meals a day... but none of them are truly large meals. It helps my blood sugar remain at a fairly level plateau thru out the day.0 -
i feel the same way. i do fine all day.. then at night i feel like munching on anything and everything. i try to drink lots of water and sometimes i'll even brush my teeth early to hopefully avoid eating. if i just have to have something.. then i'll have a fruit or something low calorie and healthy.0

You want something that will keep your protein levels up through out the night. No protein in your system mean you go into a catabolic state and your body starts to break down your hard earned/fat burning muscle! Three things I eat on a regualar basis that will keep my protein levels up through 75 % of my sleep cycle are a casein protein shake, Tuna, and Cottage cheese. The shake i get from optimum nutrition, double chocolate and its delish, Tuna with a lil bit of maricle whip but right out of the bowl, no bread. Cottage cheese right out of the tub, but i buy the one thats mixed with pineapple, taste ten times better. All three of these options have a slow realease protein in them and will keep your protein levels up through out the night and keeping your body in a anabolic (good fat buring) state. Hope this helps0

Drink water or save enough calories for one healthy dessert. I love vitamuffins, sugar free pudding or a skinny cow ice cream bar . I also have some fruit too!
I agree! I used to have a bowl of ice cream every night. At the beginning of this lifestyle change I even tried telling myself that eating a bowl of reduced fat ice cream was okay, I was still losing weight but barely. I gave up sweet/sugar for lent but still having the cravings at night. So I save up my calories and I make a smoothie at night: 1 cup of frozen straw( no added sugar). 1/2 banana, and about 1 c of skim milk. Really yummy and feels me up so I dont feel so hungry late at night. Good luck!
I totally agree with the banana smoothie idea. I have done it a lot myself. I slice up a banana, freeze it, and that way I have it for a smoothie or to add to my protein shake whenever I want it. I take one of my frozen bananas, add a cup of light soymilk and blend together. It's great! I like to add a little cinnamon to it as well.
Another thing I do is something that I read in another post here... I save up my calories because I also get hungry late-afternoon and even after dinner.0 -
Thanks to all the great ideas
I usually go to the gym around 8 pm since there isnt many people there and I wish I could go to bed early but being a college student I have SO much work in little time to do it so going to bed before midnight would be a miracle0 -
