High heart rate

Hi guys,
I have been a member of MFP for about 8 weeks or so now and love it, easy to use and keeps me motivated when I see my progress each Monday when I do my check-in. The problem I have seems to be with my heart rate peaking too quick during cardio.
I am a 29 year old female who has dropped from 70kg to 63kg and had a pretty sedentary lifestyle for the last year since I bought my car. I have known since I started running again 8 weeks ago that I get tired real quick even though I have made the move from couch to 8km gradually. I bought a polar heart rate monitor and used it tonight for the first time. My RHR is 60 but almost as soon as I start running it shoots up to 175-184 and stays there the entire time until I start walking again. It then drops back to 130ish within seconds. I can only last around 1-1.kms at this level and it is frustrating the hell out of me!
My question is, is this healthy and expected at my stage of fitness and is there anything I can do to increase my stamina or is it just a matter of patience?
Thanks guys, hope your all having a great Monday!
Karen.

perhaps you need to see a doctor. you could have an issue with your heart.
maybe you just started to suddenly too...it usually takes most people time to adapt to physical activity. some start off just walking, then treadmilling uphill, then jogging, then running.
i dont run, i jog..so maybe its a normal heart rate..the faster you run the faster your heart is going to go.0 -
Yeah I should have added i'm trying to run/jog at around 9-9.5km/h. When I started I can only do about 2 mins at 8km/h so at least i'm upto around 1-1.5kms now! I'm just worried i'm putting my body under too much strain and don't know what I can do about it? My maximum heart rate is almost being hit and I dont know if there could be consequences to that?0

Go see a doctor. If I had to guess at a cause that wouldn't freak you out I'd say iron deficiency. Many women are and it's what gives our red blood cells their oxygen carrying capabilities, if you don't have enough of it your heart will have to work harder. Breathlessness, pale, tired easily are also symptoms, a simple blood test will tell you all you need to know. But a DOCTOR can give you a thorough check up. If nothing else it'll give you the chance to update your new fab weight in your records :-)0

i think it your worried even a little you should get your self check out by a dr if nothing else it will put your mind at rest. my heart rate also gose up when i jog only just started but been twice and each time its up to working at 85% but ive being doing other exercise for the past two months trying to build up to jogging. i think its because the minute i jog my body goes stright to injurance0

Hey i kinda have the same stats as you except im heavier 73kg. During my HR is about 170-185 and after drops to 130 pretty fast. I got my HRM about 2 weeks ago so its all new to me aswell. Im also running on 9-9.5km/hr. I think its pretty normal, basically its being patient. The more you do the fitter you become and the heart rate will lessen as it becomes less effort. Thats what i gather from what ive read.0

Yeah thanks kidtechnical, that would explain why i'm more sleepy than normal at all times of the day! I quit smoking almost as soon as I started exercising becuse I thought I was going to die! haha! Maybe I just need to be patient and remember i'm not a teenager anymore! Roselynsy I also agree with you, running puts the body under tremendous strain so I think maybe mine has skipped the endurance stage and gone straight into shock! I'm sure it would prefer a chocolate bar and the car keys!! My main concern was that my heart was going to burst or something mid stride (yeah i'm a drama queen!)
Thanks ladies and keep up the hard work! x0 -

Ah thanks for that! I knew I was just being an impatient bugger but it's always good to hear i'm not alone! And you're not much heavier than me - it will come off before you know it! Lots of hard work and the odd treat keeps me going - in fairness though I can spend 2hrs training through boredom alone! I'm a student and my fiance is deployed with the forces so it passes the time. Good luck though and i'm happy to return the motivation anytime x0
