Ok I guess I either cant read or I just dont understand, hey its possible : ) I am having trouble figuring out what I am doing wrong with the setting of the max heart rate. I never get into a fat burn I am always in fitness, my heart rate would have to be below 123. Is there a method to figuring out what the max heart rate is to make sure you are even in fat burn or does it even matter and you can still just be in fitness and it all works out. I just never seem to burn any calories when for sure I must be burning something.
Thanks for the help from all you people who got a handle on it : )

I have the FT7 and I'm not sure what you are talking about. If you've programmed your watch before you used it, and you have your monitor on correctly, it will show if you are burning calories, no matter what zone you are in. I don't have mine programmed to alert me to stay in the burning zone because I know what mine is.
I do know that once I got my monitor, I was surprised at how many calories I was not burning! According to cardio machines I was burning a certain amount, but once I got my monitor and added my personal info, I did not burn as much.
Hope this helps.0 -
fat burn zone is a myth. You burn slightly higher % of calories from fat in that zone but less total calories and less calories from fat. Working out at higher intensity will burn more calories and therefore more fat.
As an example say you workout for 30 min in the fat burning zone and burn 240 calories. assuming 60% from fat would give you 144 calories from fat. Now say you workout for 30 min and burn 330 cals in the higher zone with 45% from fat for 148.5 cals from fat. So at the higher HR you burned 90 more calories in total and 3.5 more cals from fat. You will lose more weight and improve your fitness more from the higher zone.
I suggest keep doing the higher zone and your results will be amazing. Ignore the zone training.0 -

Kinda confused with what you are asking but, I am an FT7 owner.. when I first got it I had to get up into the 120's 130's to reach fitness .. now nearly a year later and I only need to go the 110's to 120's for fitness. you burn more calories in fitness than in fat burn. It find the max rate itself depending on your fitness and what you did last time you wore it. example.. today when I put mine on and set off for my walk I had to get above 110 to get into fitness after walking for about 5-10 mins it decided I needed to to 114 to reach fitness level. Not sure if this helps though as I said I am confused by what you are asking.0

The 'fat burning zone' is a marketing term anyway, do not be fooled by this crap terminology. Just workout and use the FT7 to measure how many calories you burned. Simple as that, it does not matter what zone your in as long as you are keeping your heart rate up in a workout (fitness) area. I tend to be in the 140's with mine and that works just fine for me.0 -

Agreed!! I keep mine in the 130's 140's and 150's depending on how much I want to work at it. My heart health has seemed to have improved since starting this last year and some days I have to really work to keep it up there.0 -
The max heart rate is based on age.
The zones are a percentage of the max.
At age 53 my max and zones are pretty low
I use the polar to measure rate and calorie burn but ignore the zone.
I've found a rate that's I can maintain for an hour and try to stay at that.0
