Any early risers out there

I have to be to work at 0630 so I have to leave my house NLT 0600. I'm thinking about trying an early morning workout (Chalean, Shred, Insanity) to get the blood pumping and then doing some cardio in the afternoon. I'm just wondering if anyone else gets up at the godawful time of 0400 to work out.

I have to be up by 4 to get to work on time. I am just not a morning person and cannot make myself work out that early. I know there are many that do. Good luck!!!

I am up at 4:30 to work out every day!! I keep thinking I will get used to it...but no. Haha :) I usually just go to the gym, but this morning I actually tried a Jillian Michaels DVD for the first time - KILLER!!! It is very nice to get my exercise out of the way for the day, though!

I'm up at 4:30am every morning for 1 hour of exercise. It's early, but it's over and done with before work, it doesn't take away any time I spend with my family (as they're all still asleep) and it is the most beautiful time of the day to exercise.

Losing weight and looking fabulous sometimes means doing things that others aren't prepared to do.

    Good luck.

Not 4 but on normal days (today is not one of them), I'm working out at 4:30 or 5 am. Whatever it takes to get it done.

I get up at 3am when I do workouts 45" and up and I get up at 4am when I do something like Jillian Michael's shred (27"). Just a note, the 27" workout has been getting more results than the 45" - go figure.

I can relate. I'm leaving the house at 5:30 a.m. to get to work at 6:00 a.m. I've kept on telling myself that I'll workout when I get home. However, I keep on getting pulled away to do other "stuff." I may (or will) have to get up earlier. I haven't gotten out of bed at 4:00 for a workout since my time in the service.

    Reminds me of a cadence:

Up in the morning before the break of day
I don't like it, no way
Eat my breakfast too damn soon
Hungry as a bear, by noon

Went to the mess hall on my knee
I said, "Mess SGT., Mess SGT., feed me please!"
Mess SGT. said with a big ol' grin
"If you wanna be Airborne, you gotta be thin"

Opps apologies, hit "Post Reply" too soon. Wanted to follow-up by saying. We've (wife and I) signed up for a 5K (walk/run) in April. So, I'm getting up early to prepare.

Doug, thanks for the cadence...brought back memories. You are so right...everyday I get caught up by other "stuff" and I'm just sinking deeper and deeper into not working out.

Thanks Everyone!!!! Y'all are right about everything lol... if I get up and get it out of the way then anything else that I can fit in is just lagniappe... I can't get into a routine because "something" comes up every day..it seems anyway. it would definitley be easier for me to go to bed at 9pm as opposed to working out at 9pm.
  • I am up every weekday morning doing cardio around 3:45am for an hour... I usually sleep late on the weekends and don't make it to the gym to do cardio until around 7am or so. It helps to get my day going

Also, when I work out at night I sleep very poorly. Much better to get it over with in the morning and have my evenings to spend with the family! And don't forget that when you get your metabolism up with an early workout, it stays elevated all day and burns more calories.

Chris the whole "burns all day" thing really makes me think I need to set my alarm for 4:00 am :-)

i wake up at 4am nearly every day to work out :) once you do it a few times, it gets easier. i wake up at 4, drink some coffee and have an apple or some almonds, do my workout, shower, do my lesson planning for the day, cook breakfast, tidy up the house, and then head to work. actually, i do not work very early in the day (10am), but i find waking up very early starts my day off on a good note... the early bird catches the worm, right?
  • I don't wake up quite that early, but I have to start my workout by 6 every morning to be able to make it to campus by 8 for classes. It's tough, but like others have said - at least that way it's done and out of the way. I know that if I tried to workout when I come home at 9 every night it would never happen.

What is 27" vs 45"? You mean minutes??????

Yep! I wake up at 4:45am, walk my dogs, then workout for 45min to an hour (P90X Lean+). Then after work I do an additional 45min on the elliptical. Had to acclimate myself to mornings, but its worth it because my mood when I wake up is better than when I get off work.

I get up at 5 and am out the door for my 60 minute walk by 5:25. I work long hours so this is the only time I can get my workout in. Getting up so early is tough at first but if you stick with it your body will get used to it.
