Cartiladge Piercing

I've always wanted my cartliadge pierced. I had it done about 5 years ago and ended up having to take it out after a few weeks because it was starting to form a bump on the backside, and was super irritated.
Last weekend, (19th) I went out and decided to get it done again. Well 1.5 weeks later, its still very sensitive. A little red in back, and hurts when I lay on it. I'm using the solution they gave to me to clean/twist the earring 3x a day, but I'm nervous it's going to get infected like last time. I have shoulderlength hair, and it sometimes gets caught in the back.
Do you know if this is still normal for it to be sore yet? Also how long did yours take to heal (if you can remember)?
Thanks for any advice!

I don't recall how long mine took to heal, however, I was given the advice to clean the earring and lobe with Dial antibacterial soap while in the shower. I never had irritation or bumps. Good Luck!0

It took mine at least a month to heal. You just really have to be aware of it. Like when you wash your hair you should try not to get too much shampoo suds on it and try to keep your hair out of it. But, also some people just can't have it. My friend tried it a few different times and she always got that lump and had to take it out.0

My daughter had hers pierced around 8 weeks ago and it is still not healed, irritated and her hair constantly gets tangled in the back
So, I don't know if that's "normal", but I've advised her to clean it at least 3 times a day front and back--which I'm not sure she's been doing up until this point. Hope it heals up for you!

Yea cartilidge piercings are the most painful out of all the ones ive had done! Mine struggled to heal aswell so i ended up removing them. I think its best to leave 6them for 4-6 weeks tho before they are healed!!0

Some people take much longer to heal. On our after care paperwork, we suggest Sea Salt cleaning and Tea Tree Oil. The oil did wonders on my nose piercing.0

I had my ear done in Jan. The parlor told me to use Sea Salt several times a day..I would tell everyone to do this-it helped so much with the irritation- you can also put the sea salt water on a cotton ball and "attach" it to the ear as a soak. My ear doesn't hurt at all anymore and I think it was this that made the difference. (I had one a couple years ago that I had to take out due to soreness) Good Luck!0 -
Mine never really stopped hurting, and I had mine for over a year. It finally closed up when I got a haircut , and I forgot to put the earring back in (always remove the earring when you get a haircut! My hairdresser got a comb stuck in mine about 3 weeks after I got the piercing and OUCH).
I think the length of heal time (if it heals at all) depends on how you got the piercing in the first place. If you had it pierced with a needle, the heal time should be less but it will still take a good 2-3 months. But, if you had it done with a gun, you're in for some long term pain. The gun literally removes a chunk of your cartilege, and sometimes your ear won't heal until you take out the earring.0 -
Hi, this is my first post on here
I've got mine pierced. mine also swoll up and was sore. I took the earring out that came with the piercing and replaced it with a gold one. I am sensitive to other metals. Once I replaced the earring it healed really well. My daughter recently had hers done and she had the same, started swelling and irritation. We replaced the earring with a gold one and the irritation and swelling went. Hope this is helpful

What kind of earrings did they put in? You could be reacting to the "metal" I personally can't wear anything with "nickel" in it. I can only wear 14k gold or really good silver or my ears react and get itchy and red.
Good luck! I love having my ears pierced but it would be nice to wear any kind of earrings. I hope yours heal up. I know mine took about 6 weeks.0 -
I agree with Jessifreehugs... Piercing should NOT be done with a gun at a local piercing place..if you want to try for best results..Please, Please, Please go to a tattoo parlor that has piercings available. They will do it with a needle instead of gun so it pokes the cartilage out instead of the gun shattering it.0

Oh and I'm sensitive to earrings so I've found the best ones to put in there are surgical steel and titanium..all others just irritate my ear.0

Well thats too late, b/c it was done w/ a gun. LOVELY that I hear about this after it's been done. Bah!
( Oh well. Hopefully it just takes a few weeks and it'll be better. It's not an intense pain, just when something touches it.
It's a 14 K white gold earring. I can't wear anything with "nickle" or that is "fake" either......0 -
Be sure to try the Sea Salt mixed with a little water to clean and soak...It made a huge difference with mine.0
