"Eat to Live," not "Live to Eat"

I think it is pretty safe to say that most of us on here fall into the " live to eat " category. The simple truth is that we have to stop thnking about food as pleasure and start thinking about it as fuel. MFP breaks it down to what fuel we need. It is simple mathmatics. How many calories we take in and how many we burn. Sounds so simple. Right? But the truth is that it isn't simple. We have conditioned ourselves our whole lives to enjoy eating. Even now as we are losing weight, we try to trick ourselves with food that taste good and makes us think we are cheating, but we are setting ourselves up for problems in the future. Another problem is the reward. I lost x pounds this week so I'm going to reward myself with ______. We've all done it. Right? This has to stop.
I feed my dog a high quality dog food. He gets 6 cups a day and is doing great. His body is perfect for his size and age. It is so easy because I control it for him. We need to do this for ourselves. We all know what we need to do. Lets do it and lets find some other forms of pleasure.

Great post.
there are things that make this harder.....many of us have been conditioned to eat in front of the TV for example.
After years and years of doing this, your mind tells you you need to be putting something into your mouth while you watch TV (Pavlov's dogs)
Even if your not hungry, your mind tells you to get something to eat. The way we have been conditioned from us to our parents and grandparents over generations has caused so many problems.
being aware is the first step, making a significant change is the next, and thats what we are here for.......
again great post!0 -
