Well first off I'm April!! I'm from Iowa and I just turned 26. I've been married a year to my amazing husband Dan. We have a beautiful daughter named Ava who will be 3 in August.
Now to get to why I joined! Its bit of a long story but here it goes: I've suffered from migraines and headaches since I was in the 1st grade. Back in the late 80's early 90's there wasn't a big issue when it came to headaches with children, so my parents never really had me go to a "special" Dr to see what the problem was. They only took me to my family Dr. Don't get me wrong they always were concerned but like I said headaches back then weren't a huge issue as they are now today. So just recently in the last 5 years they've gotten worse so it started to really bother me. I didn't have insurance so of course I never went to the Dr to see what was going on. Now in the past year they have gotten completely worse. So since now I'm actually on insurance I figured it was time to go see someone. So I did and got put on meds to help the headaches. It was working for awhile then about a month ago I had a 3 and a half day migraine. Which I took everything under the sun and tried every "old wives tale" I could to get rid of it. I finally had it so I went to see a different Dr. He was shocked to see that the meds I was put on weren't even enough to help. He put on some different trial meds and so after the headache was gone.
He had me go see him 30 days later "yesterday" for a check up to see if the new meds he put me on helped and were a lot better, and of course they are!! After we talked about that, he said "April-- don't think I'm being an *kitten* here but I do think we should talk about your weight and BMI" He told me that if I lower my BMI and my weight, that will in turn lower my blood pressure and that will REALLY help maintaining my headaches. I could tell he was very sincere about it and actually cared. He told me to start off small, like doing a 10min walk for 2 weeks then keep bumping it up. And if I push my daughter in stroller it adds 25lbs of force. It really opened my eyes when he said something. Finally someone isn't telling me "go to the gym and work out" "go on this diet, eat this eat that". I mean everyone different and everyone has a different lifestyle. It really opened my eyes that if I just start out small I can really do this.... I dont over eat, EVER.... and I dont eat fast food all the time, I cooked home cooked meals for my family, I dont eat sweets.... so its not like I sit on my couch and eat junk. My weight and still from the pregnancy weight that I had with my daughter. I get VERY down on myself and sometimes see myself as just this gross, ugly person. Yet my husband thinks I'm very beautiful and attractive. I know I am to, from the chest up lol. But I really want to look and feel better for myself.
So this me welcoming myself to everyone out there!! I would to meet new people that are in the same boat or even a different one. I want to motivate people and have people really inspire me too.
Anywho-- If anyone wants to add me, that be would be wonderful... I'm a good person with a good heart and I'm super awesome friend
