NSV - Fighting Peer Pressure

I have turned down countless invitations to Five Guys Burgers and Fries since starting my MFP journey. That hasn't been extremely hard really, even though I do miss my Five Guys.

But yesterday, my job decides to have an "Ice Cream Social." You know, they buy a boat load of ice cream, every flavor you could want, and the entire company (100 Employees) goes in the training room, eats ice cream, drinks soda, and chit chats for 30 minutes.

So, I decide to really TEST my self yesterday and even helped unload the car and carry all the stuff up from the parking lot. Oh it looked SO GOOD!!!

Well, 3 PM came, and I decided to go in to the training room to really see if I had the will power. And when I got in there, I saw that they had oranges, strawberry's and grapes as well! I had no problem going right for them and they were GOOD!

And this morning, I was rewarded with 2 more pounds lost, AND, for the first time in 15+ years, I was under 200 lbs!

Peer Pressure is a HUGE thing when trying to lose weight. So glad I was able to fight it off this time. Even the CEO of the company was like "you going healthy on us?" I wasn't really sure how to respond, since the CEO is over weight, but I just said "just trying to shed a few pounds."

So happy this morning!

Thanks for reading!

That is awesome. It is all those everday choices that will add up to success.

    Glad the scale rewarded you.

Congratulations!!!! Going below 200 is a great feeling! I'm female, so getting close to 200 lbs was the siren screaming for me to stop gaining weight. I lost about 20 about 3 years ago, then started gaining again and lost down to 142--my favorite weight.
It is a good feeling--for you, me, anyone--to gain more control of our bodies and what goes into them! :drinker: (lots of water)

I think staying on track at work is one of the hardest things to do. I don't know how food became such an intricate part of our jobs but with holidays, birthdays, fun days, bagels at meetings, vending machines, the lunch truck and all the stuff people keep on their desks, no wonder we're all getting fatter.

    Great control, congrats!!!

That is fabulous!!! Peer pressure definitely is tough! And another 2lbs loss, way to go. Also by you resisting temptation you never realize who you may inspire to get healthy, maybe your boss.

    Way to go!!!

    Thanks everyone!!

Speaking of the scale rewarding me with a loss, I did have a quick question that probably belongs on another sub board but thought I would ask here.

Does everyone lose weight the way I do? I assume not but how I lose it is frustrating as heck.

I will go a week at the same weight or around it and then bang, 2 pounds gone.

I would have thought it would be more of a gradual thing, but I digress.

Happily taking what I get.

Congrats on feeling powerful in your choices. That’s all that matters. What’s not fun is feeling like you have to punish yourself with eating fruit because you are afraid to eat something fun and high calorie. But, we just have to check in with ourselves in order to know if that’s where we are. But as long as we are making choices that make us feel powerful—and making a choice that supports your goals instead of works against them—is empowering. Go You!
    Thanks everyone!!

Yes. I have a similar weight loss pattern, which is why I try to only weigh in once a month. Either because of the kind of exercise I do or genetics or both, I have major body transformations (dropping sizes, lost inches), but the scale moves very slowly. I can step on it for weeks at a time and it will show the same number, even though my body is transforming. Over time, that number goes down, usually in random spurts.

They just opened a Five Guys probably a 1/2 mile from my house. I have no problem avoiding it as my wife doesn't care for it  . I know how it is with free food, especially good, fattening free food. Congrats to you and to your company for providing healthy alternatives.

Great NSV! Peer pressure is rough. It's great that the fruit was there to make it easier for you to avoid temptation. Sometimes we just have to take one choice at a time and feel good when we make the right ones.

That's great! I understand the fear. At my place of work, everyone brings treats on their birthday and there are a lot of people employed there, so there's always temptation. Good job!

That's a great job! We have a fortnightly morning tea where people bring yummy things to share. It was my turn to bring a plate last week, and I thought a lot about what it would be (I wanted to make scones but knew I wouldn't be able to resist). Finally I decided to bring a great big fruit platter. I didn't see it as resisting or punishing myself by having some beautiful tropical fruit, but a nurturing of my body and a kindness to myself.

BTW I also have weird plateaus and sudden drops in weight, can't explain it, but I do keep spreadsheets and graphs to look at to remind myself that if it is not moving at the moment it will soon.

    GG
  • That is awesome!! Good for you.

Great job! It's very inspiring to read stories like this one...it really helps to keep me on track! I try to remember those MFPers, like you, who have resisted when I find goodies in the staff room....I try to just keep on walkin'!!!!
