I have been searching through older posts and there just doesnt seem to be an accurate way to calculate weight lifting calories burned. Does anyone know of a web-site where you can enter in the number of reps with weight lifted instead of just minutes? I spend an hour of my time in the gym everyday weight training....but how many of those minutes to I actually log??? Im not lifting the entire time?? So confused! I would appreciate any advice! Thanks!

I think most people will suggest a heart rate monitor....
I'll check back here to see what people post0 -
the only true accurate way is with a heart rate monitor, suck it up and invest in 1, it was definitely a good investment for me.0

I have a HRM but from your post I'm assuming you don't yet have one.
If it's any use I'm 5ft 5 and weight 149lbs. When I do a body pump class (45 mins) all weight training my HRM reading is approx 250cals.
I also do weight training with my personal trainer and for the hour (exculding the intervals he makes me do) my HRM reading is approaximately 400 cals but that is with the most challenging weights I can manage.
I know it depends on your height, weight and intensity of your workout but I just thought some info may serve as a guide for you :flowerforyou: :glasses:0 -
I use a heart rate monitor and glad I bought one just because of the strength training! I burned more calories then I thought. I just never thought about how your heart rate spikes.0

With strength training it is hard to say the best way to figure out your caloric burn. There are too many factors for mfp to really figure out accurately. It all depends on how much you rest between sets, what muscles you work, the intensity of the lifts, etc. I was reading a post this morning that was even saying the HRM's aren't very accurate for strength training either. Most of it is guesswork. I guess the most accurate would be a body bugg or similar device.0

Ok, so I bought a HRM and the calories it shows I have burned varies significantly from the ones on this site! Im guessing that is because this one is programed for my age, weight, height, and exact heart rate???? For those of you who use HRM's how often do you check your heart rate during a workout....mine says the more the better. Sorry to beat this subject to death, I just want to make sure Im logging my excersise calories correctly!
Thanks again!0 -
I check it after every set during my 4-5 second rest period then go again. The chest strap ones are usually better though as its a continuous read off your heart rate.0
