does anyone know when you are measuring (I weigh on my food scale) a potato if you do it prior to cooking it OR after? the difference is at least 20+ carbs....big deal or not?
thanks!

i'm pretty sure you weight it before cooking. Otherwise you are measuring water it has absorbed during cooking etc. not just the potato.0

I think the general rule of thumb is to measure pre-cooked weight, unless the database entry says cooked. For example, for sweet potatoes, I this one: "Sweet potato - Cooked, baked in skin, without salt ".0

I generally weigh it prior to cooking.0

I measured a potato, skin on, before microwaving, at 168 grams. after it was 143 grams?? it was lighter *after* being cooked....?0

It's totally up to you with which one you want to use. I'm sure it's just drying out any water retained in the potato prior to nuking it. My idea is that however you decide to log it, remain consistent with that method. I don't really know how much of a caloric difference 25g of a potato is, but I suppose you could keep that difference in mind just in case your numbers aren't adding up towards your overall calorie count whenever you weigh-in.0
