Hello Everyone,
My name is Tricia and I just joined this site. I need to lose 15-20 lbs of 'baby weight' from over the years and I'm excited to be here. I an not new to exercise but new to calorie counting!! I normally do at least an hour of circuit training 4x a week and cardio 2x a week. This website seems to be a lot more user friendly than the other one I am on. I do have a question though. In my goals section I initially listed that I want to lost 2 lbs a week but I've changed my mind. I went back in to try and change that and on the page where it says to do that I do put in 2 lbs. but when I try to update it it comes back to 1.3 lbs a week. Am I doing something wrong here?

Thanks,
Tricia

It's probably defaulting to 1.3 lbs per week because MFP wants your calorie goal to be at least 1200 per day. So if a goal of 2lbs loss per week would put you under 1200, MFP defaults you to a goal that will keep you at a minimum of 1200 calories.

It's almost impossible to get full nutrition on less than 1200 calories per day.

Thanks for the welcome and the tips. Maybe that's it. MFP wants me to be at 1.3 instead of 2 because I thought I had done that correctly.

Yes, I have 12 kids. Ages 29 to 5 and they are all mine. (Oh, and my husband's too!) We have homeschooled them all since our oldest turned 5 and are still in the game for a while. I also have 5 grandkids ages 6 and down. And personally, I think they all look like me!!

I was keeping my calories at about 1300 for a month and I've been starving. I normally exercise quite a bit and wear a heart monitor so I know my calories burned but I had NO idea I was not eating back enough food to lose weight. I've been logging everything and normally it looked like this:

    ate 1310 calories
burned just through exercise anywhere from 600-1000 calories. And that doesn't include running after my kids!! So is it any wonder I only lost 5 lbs in almost 2 months?

    Blessings,

yeah. that's where you were going wrong. i haven't had that problem, but people ask the question ALL THE TIME. i've read about it nearly every day for the last month. definitely eat back your exercise calories. in fact, this time i'm invoking "the URL" as a favor, and not as a snarky comeback. you seem to be genuinely interested in the information, so i'm willing to provide it.

copy-paste, and thank user Taso42 for that one.

lots of luck to you, and all the blessings of the world for you and your continually expanding family.

Thank you soooo much. I had a feeling I was in the wrong. Just by going by how I would feel at the end of the day. Exhausted to say the least. I did have one week I logged where I looked back and noticed that my calories were up upwards towards 1700-1900 after good workouts and low and behold, THAT was the week I lost 2 pounds. WHY didn't I stick with my gut on this? I just knew that ending the day with a total calorie intake after working out and eating my 1300 calories was only around 500 I was surely doing something wrong. You have lifted my spirits.

    Blessings,
    Tricia

    Welcome to the site!

If I had 12 kids, I'd be 600 lbs! I'd just sit in the corner of my bedroom eating cookies and crying.

I've had days like that!! But mostly they were/are very wonderful. I see you are doing P90X. My husband and 3 sons are doing that too.

I am the tenth of thirteen children. All from same mom and dad. Almost unheard of now-a-days. My mom is a saint. I didn't realize that in the fullest sense until I had my three children. God bless you!
