Canadian Food Guide suggests 25-30 grams per day, if you're not used to that much build up to it over time rather than going from 2grams to 25 just BAM... and if you're having more fiber increase your fluid intake too.

"Most nutrition experts recommend that most American adults consume 25-35 grams of dietary fiber daily. Some nutrition experts recommend even more fiber: 35-45 grams daily." (source: http://www.thedietchannel.com/Fiber-Intake-Daily-Amount.htm)

I'm with the nutrition experts on this and consume between 35-45 grams each day.

"Although the recommended amount of fiber is 20 to 35 grams a day, the average American consumes only 12 to 15 grams on a daily basis. Asians, on average, consume three times as much fiber as Americans do." (source: http://www.faqs.org/nutrition/Erg-Foo/Fiber.html)

Is it any wonder why Asians who live in their native land have less cancer than North Americans?

    I think not!

    Hope this helps
