Life After P90X

I am getting ready to finish up P90X for the 2nd time - Last recovery week next week. For all the other "grads" what did you do after you completed the 90 days? I am having a hard time deciding what to do now. I know that I definitely do not want to jump right back into the program. Have kicked around the idea of Insanity - (tried it last year but very unmotivated to do it) - I have reached a healthy weight with P90X, but am worried that I will be unmotivated to keep working out hard now that I am done. Any ideas?

I would suggest keep doing it because you want to maintain. You will get back in enjoying it. I am only on my second week and Im loving it oh how I wish it were 90 days from now haha.
  • I'd like to hear what people say.. I've had a very rocky first attempt at the program (missing days here and there, repeating weeks, etc) and I'd like to actually make a real attempt to do it the RIGHT way the second round. But then after that? Not sure...

I'm also considering Insanity. Aren't there additional Tony Horton workouts specifically for P90X grads?

A lot of folks (including me) change it up by mixing in different cardio workouts from other programs, while still keeping the weight lifting workouts to create a sort of "hybrid" workout. It is especially important to continue with a strenght training routine at least three times per week to maintain your hard earned muscle and keep your metabolism humming along.

I know that somewhere on the TeamBeachbody website is a workout calendar that is a hybrid of P90X and Insanity (I'm assuming you already have Insanity, since you mentioned trying it once) that might give you an idea of how to mix programs.

    Congrats on being a 2X P90X grad!!

Regardless of what you decide to do -- CONGRATS! You've finished P90X 2x's & that isn't easy. *applause*

I would suggest doing something else first before doing it again only because you don't wanna get in a rut!!! Maybe do some cardio. At least give yourself more time off from it, it can get monotonous. Weight training perhaps anything but jumping right back into the 90 days of p90x!!!

I did Insanity after I did P90X. I got the extra DVD's with the Upper Body Weight Training and I incorporated that 3 times a week along with Insanity's regular schedule. There is Insanity the Asylum coming out next month, that may be something you could do that is totally new.

Grats on finishing :) - I'll start of by saying I have no idea what P90X is ^^

I might try something a bit different, currently I'm working on a boot camp program. It's free, and can do it in the comfort of your own home, or gym. There are a ton of youtube videos for "boot Camp workout" - with sexy ladies might I had ;) showing you different exercises you can do.

All of these exercises work different muscles in your body, and it seems like people only do 1 exercise for 1-2mins before moving on to the next, and going in a huuuge circle for 1-2hrs. It keeps variety if your life.

There are the P90X Master series DVDs and the Tony Horton One-on-One DVDs. Those could be directly subbed in to the main P90X program as well. Really, the options are endless!! I also know of folks doing P90X with TurboFire subbed in!

ChaLEAN Extreme? My husband is really enjoying these workouts right alongside of me. He loves the heavy lifting. I think he plans to continue on w/ CLX even after his 90 days and still use it for his weight training, but sub in different cardio since he's into biking. Good luck on picking the right program--I think that's important or you won't stick to it!

Hmmmm... Interesting question, so I'll answer based on how I'll do it. First off, congrats fellow grad!!! I just started round 3 of P90X and I'm so used to it that I don't really want to "stop." I agree with the post above that maintenance is key and staying active is important. I also see the benefit of switching things up. I'm personally happy with P90X Lean and Lean +. I plan on rotating between the two once I get the results I want. I've built up so much momentum with P90X that I'm afraid I'll lose it if I switch to something else.
