Interval Training

I have a question regarding interval training on a treadmill. I am trying to calculate how many more calories I burn doing intervals instead of a consistant pace run. Articles on the net say anywhere between 20% to 50% more. Anyone have any idea or better yet know of an online calculator that would show me.

Most online calculators dont have interval training.

Thanks!!

Consider getting a heart rate montior or just use what the treadmill shows if its equipped with a HRM. Just make sure you check you HR often. The treadmill I use has a 400m track as one of the views so I check my HR every lap. Happy training.

My calories go up consistently at about 10 calories per minute when I'm power walking (at level 7.4ish). So for example after 10 minutes I will have burned 100 calories. Whenever I add running in (maybe level 9.5ish for around 3 minutes) I will have burned 20 extra calories, so after 10 minutes I would have burned 120 calories. And then if I stay at 7.4 the calories will continue to go up by 10 per minute. But because I've added the running instead of burning 500 calories in 50 minutes I'll have burned 520 calories in 50 minutes. So if I run 5 times over my workout for 3 minutes at 9.5 then my results will be around 600 calories in 50 minutes- so I don't have to workout for as long in order to reach a burn goal of 600 calories. I don't really call it "cutting out" or cutting off I just feel like it means I don't have to spend as much time on the treadmill.

I know it's not exactly what you wanted but it's a bit of an example from personal experience. Hope it helped! And I think interval training is more about mixing up your heart rate anyway, to get it peaking and working hard.
