I'm not sure how to add pics to my main post so I've put one in the profile space.I have more but not sure how to upload.
My mid section is very thick.I am an apple shape and I know its really unhealthy.I've tried abdominal crunches but they don't help in the slightest. How can I specifically do exercises that target the belly and overhang. My waist is 32" but my belly/gut is 40" and my hips are 38" so it's terribly unattractive.I'd like a much leaner waist and more muscles in the belly area.
thanks

You can't use specific exercises to 'spot reduce' fat, despite the common idea that you can. But you can strengthen the muscles underneath the mid-section and diet/exercise away the fat on top, which should produce the effect you're looking for.0 -
This is also where my body wants to carry the extra weight. After my second child I really had to work hard to get rid of it. Just stick with a good clean diet and exercising and it will eventually come off. It's just usually the last thing to go. I use to just workout a lot but that only did so much. I saw the real results when I cleaned up my eating. Good luck.0

I am following both of these right now. Currently a month in and I've lost an inch or two and OMG I can feel my abs... lol I can feel them flex more when I do other strength training or cardio workouts now.
Good luck & God Bless!0 -

I know you say you've tried crunches, but I'd say keep trying. Do 2 minutes of twist crunches a day, at least. I used to do 150 sit ups every night before bed back in the days when I really cared about looking good in a bikini (these days my post baby stretch marks mean I'll never look that great, so I CBA!). Also losing fat all over helps. I didn't go in at the waist at all 4 months ago, now after a lot of exercise and eating better I do. Not much, but a bit.0

I have a very similar shape. For the last few weeks my husband and I have been following the guidelines for the first month of P90x eating... which is essentially very low carb (>30% calories from carbs... all my daily carbs come from dairy, vegetables, and 1 Luna bar a day), along with the P90x lean routine. I have lost 2 inches on my belly (but almost none on my waist) in the last 2 weeks... very effective in getting rid of the extra inches I carry near my belly button.
I would say to try low-carb for a month, along with your exercising, and see if it helps! But don't stop the muscle building... the more lean muscle you have, the more calories you'll burn everyday, which will also help to ditch the belly fat. But the other posters are right, there's no such thing as a targeted exercise for parts of your body, unfortunately for both of us!!!
(PS - I wouldn't recommended low-carb permanently, it's only 30 days at a time on P90x and would be too hard to maintain! slowly re-introduce them once you get the results you want)0 -
Yo can do sit ups all day long but it won`t get rid of the fat at your mid section. You have to create a alorie deficit so tha your body starts burning it`s fat stores. YOu can`t chose where teh fat will coem off from, but if you keep at it, eventually you can get rid of all of it! YAY!
To create a calorie defict you have to have a balanced diet where you limit the calories you eat and do cardio 4-6 days a week for minimum 30 minutes.0
